Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 17

 A high-pitched whistle started Neptune and Nepgear awake. Nepgear groaned loudly, as she rolled onto her stomach and pushed herself up. Neptune on the other hand continued to lie perfectly still. Her eyes were partially open. For a moment, Neptune forgot where she was.

“Aw… Nepgear?” Neptune began, looking at her sister who’s eyes were partially opened as well. “Did you crawl into bed with me? It’s been a while since you’ve done that.” Neptune said.

“Huh? No. We shared a bed last night, remember?” Said Nepgear, half asleep.

“Oh! That’s right!” Neptune said, taking a deep breath. “Sorry about that favorite little sister of mine. I completely forgot about that.” Neptune said up in bed. Neptune suddenly yawned and stretched her hands high over her head. “I don’t know about you, but I had a dream that we were back in Planeptune. We were hanging out with IF and Compa, then something bad happened.”

“Something bad?” Nepgear asked. “Let me guess. They outlawed pudding or something?”

Neptune rubbed the side of her head. “Did they? No. I don’t think that was it.” Said Neptune. “It was something else, but I can’t remember. Weird dream.” Neptune sleepily looked at Nepgear who was now sitting on the bed opposite of hers and was pulling on her shoes. “How did you sleep Nepgear?”

“Pretty good. I slept all night.” Nepgear said, sighing deeply. “Now there’s no time to check out the train.”

“Why not?” Asked Neptune.

Neptune’s question was quickly answered when she noticed someone was looking through the window of their train car. “Crackers!” Neptune said, pulling the covers up past her chest even though she was fully clothed. “Get out of here you cootie bag!” Neptune cried.

“I don’t think they can see inside or hear us.” Nepgear said.

“Still. It’s the thought that counts and my thoughts are creeping me out right now!” Neptune declared, as she threw off her blankets and grabbed her shoes. Neptune slid a cover over the window before she slid her feet into her shoes.

Nepgear stood and stretched her hands over her head. “Are you ready to go big sis?” Nepgear asked.

“One second.” Neptune said, as she made her way over to the refrigerator and grabbed a couple bottles of water. “For the road, okay?”

Nepgear wanted to argue, but changed her mind. “Alright. Thanks!” She said, taking a bottle from her sister. After that Neptune and Nepgear stepped out of the train and into the morning air. “Hello everyone!” Neptune cheered. Neptune’s smile vanished almost immediately. The town looked completely empty.

“Hey… Where is everyone?” Asked Nepgear.

“Why there was a weirdo right over… there?” Neptune pointed to their car’s window was, but they were now gone. The entire platform the girls stood on was empty of life except for them. “Hey Nepgear? Do you believe in ghosts?”

“Th-that wasn’t a ghost Neptune.” Nepgear said, her voice shook in her throat a little.

“Uh-huh. You sure?” Neptune said, tilting her head slightly to the right.

Nepgear ignored her sisters question before she turned her eyes back to the town. The town was much larger than the last one they were in. However, this town looked completely empty. “Where is everyone?” Nepgear wondered, aloud.

“HELLO!?” Neptune shouted, as she cupped her hands around her mouth. “IS ANYONE OUT HERE?!”

Neptune’s voice echoed through the town, but no one returned her call. “This is so weird!” Neptune said, placing her hands high on her hips. “Well… That stinks. I guess we should just keep on going.”

“I guess so.” Nepgear said. “Still. If this town was abandoned, who was looking into the train car just a moment ago?”

Neptune felt a shiver run down her spine. “Forget it, forgot it, let’s go!” Neptune said, leading the charge off the train platform. Nepgear followed closely behind her sister. Once they reached the bottom step of the platform, they heard the train doors behind them close, a loud whistle and then the train started moving back down the tracks. Soon the train had disappeared somewhere in the distance.

“Well were stuck here.” Nepgear said.

“Yep.” Neptune said, nervously. “I don’t know about you Nepgear, but I suddenly feel like running!”

“Me too!” Nepgear said.

Neptune and Nepgear were about to start running, but stopped when they spotted a figure appear in the road ahead of them. Even though the girls were certain they had never seen monsters like them before, they knew exactly what kinds of creatures stood in front of them. High Lizard and Promise Ring. Dozens of them.

Neptune and Nepgear summoned their weapons. “I think I can guess where the towns people went.” Neptune said, aiming the tip of her katana at the creatures.

“I hope you’re wrong.” Nepgear said, in a small voice.

The High Lizards’ and Promise Rings’ started charging at the two girls with incredible speeds. Neptune and Nepgear prepared themselves for a fight, but before they could do anything they heard the sound of footfalls behind them.

“Watch out!” Came a voice.

Neptune and Nepgear turned in time to see a small figure leap over them. Suddenly the figure summoned a large hammer that looked like an enormous toy. The figure smashed through the high lizards’ and promise rings’, sending them flying back. The creatures slammed into the ground and against the surrounding buildings.

The figure landed gracefully in front of Neptune and Nepgear. The figure smiled brightly and saluted. “I see the train dropped off two wifeys for me!”

“Wifeys?” Nepgear said, shocked.

“Uh… I’m not ready to tie the knot just yet.” Neptune said, scratching the back of her head.

The figure that stood before them was a red haired girl. The girl ran up to Neptune and Nepgear. “Sorry ladies, no time to chat. Do you mind following me?” She asked.

“Who are you?” Neptune asked, confused by everything that was going on.

“My name is Red!” The girl said, saluting once more. “I’ll explain everything later, but we have to start running now!”

Neptune and Nepgear wanted to grill the girl for more information, but soon realized that would be impossible. Dozens more high lizards’ and promise rings’ had appeared and were now flying after them.

“We better run Neptune!” Nepgear said.

“Lead the way Red.” Said Neptune.

Neptune and Nepgear followed Red as the girl led them down several long alleyways and even through several buildings. Soon the girls ran into a forth building and closed the door behind them.

“There. I think we lost them.” Said Red. Red’s eyes got wide as she started looking Neptune and Nepgear over. “Wow! I picked up some hot wifeys today!”

“I’m no ones wifey.” Neptune said.

“Sorry, but I’m going to have to decline as well.” Nepgear said, laughing nervously.

“You… Don’t want to be my wifey?” Red asked, her eyes moistened with tears.

“That’s right. You’re going to have to put a ring on-” Neptune began, but Nepgear interrupted her.

“Never min that Red. Could you tell us what’s going on here?” Asked Nepgear.

“Oh yeah! Sure!” Said Red, perking up almost immediately. “A while ago several strong looking monsters appeared in our town. The towns people ran for the hills and I’ve been left behind to kill the monsters.”

“That’s it?” Nepgear asked.

“It’s weird, right? Monsters like these usually hangout in ruins, but these were driven right into town.” Said Red.

“That is weird.” Said Nepgear, scratching her chin thoughtfully. “What should we do Neptune?”

“I guess beat some monsters up?” Neptune offered.

“I appreciate that, but these monsters are pretty strong.” Said Red.

“Interesting…” Nepgear said, glancing up at the ceiling. “Red… Have you ever heard of something called a Fairy Tower?”

“Fairy Tower? I don’t think so.” Said Red, shaking her head.

“There’s a Fairy Tower really close by. You can actually increase your strength if you use it.” Said Nepgear.

“Uh… Nepgear?” Neptune began. “Are you sure that’s a good idea? You know? Telling people about the Fairy Tower?”

“I do.” Said Nepgear. “Remember what MAGES. Told us? We need to tell more people about the Fairy Tower.”

“Yeah… She did say that didn’t she?” Neptune asked. “Anyways Red. Like my brainy little sister said. You can get stronger by using the Fairy Tower, but only if you kill monsters and take the share energy you get from killing them.”

“I played a game like that. It was called Dark-” Red began, but Neptune cut her off.

“Nope! It’s an original idea!” Neptune said, giggling nervously. “Anyways, we’ll deal with the monsters in this town. Maybe you’ll earn some share energy by helping us?”

“That could work.” Said Nepgear.

“I’ll help!” Red said, holding up her giant toy hammer.

“You ready Nepgear?” Neptune asked.

Nepgear nodded. “Yep! I’m all rested up and ready to go!”

“Great!” Neptune said, happily. “Let’s go brutally murder some monsters!”

Neptune, Nepgear and Red stepped outside. Their smiled vanished instantly when they saw that the house they were hiding in had been completely surrounded by high lizards’ and promise rings’. The high lizards’ licked their maws hungrily while the promise rings’ hovered above the ground and giggled like imps.

“I think they heard us.” Nepgear said.

Neptune sighed deeply. “Nothing else to do!” Neptune turned to Red. “Red? I want you to hit and run. Let Nepgear and I take care of the rest, okay?”

“Right!” Red said, holding up her hammer.

“Nepgear? Follow me!” Neptune said, as she led the charge at the monsters.

One of the high lizards’ rushed forwards and lifted it’s axe high over its head before bringing it down fast. Neptune held up her sword just in time to block the first attack. While Neptune and the high lizard faced off, Nepgear leapt high into the air and brought her energy sword down on the creatures head. With a bright flash the monster vanished.

“That’s my little sister! You kill monsters better than the rest!” Neptune said.

Nepgear blushed heavily.

Red watched in amazement as Neptune and Nepgear started taking out monster after monster effortlessly. Their teamwork almost brought a tear to Red’s eye.

Red leaned her hammer against her body, slapped her cheeks and then started fighting the monsters herself. Considering how weak Red was, the only thing the girl could do was swing her toy hammer around wildly. Her hammer smacked into the monsters causing them to fall backwards.

“Too bad I can’t actually kill any of these monsters.” Red thought, sadly.

One of the high lizards’ lifted its shield and blocked Red’s attack. After that, two more high lizards’ flew at Red and swung their axes. Red’s eyes went wide with terror, but before the creatures could cut her down, Neptune and Nepgear leapt in front of her and kicked the creatures hard in the chest, sending them reeling backwards.

“Thanks!” Said Red, welling with joy. “I knew I spotted some quality wifeys!”

“Ugh!” Neptune grunted, before she leapt at another swatch of monsters and cut them down.

Nepgear merely giggled as she sliced through a promise ring, killing it with a single strike.

As the fight waged on, the amount of monsters that attacked the girls lessened and lessened, until no more remained.

“I think that’s it.” Nepgear said, lowering her energy sword.

“We did it Nepgear!” Neptune said, holding out her hand.

“Yep!” Nepgear said, giving her sister a high-five.

“Come on Red!” Neptune said, holding out her hand for Red to slap it next.

“Thanks.” Red said, her enthusiasm had vanished. “But I didn’t really do anything.”

Neptune shook her head. “Oh please! Give me a high-five!”

Red sighed a little, but happily returned Neptune’s gesture. “Seriously Red. You didn’t give up even though you couldn’t kill any of the monsters. I admire that.” Nepgear said. “Besides, you’ve been trying to take back this town for a while, right?”

“Weeks.” Said Red.

“That’s admirable!” Nepgear said.  

“But you need to get stronger.” Neptune said.

“Neptune!” Nepgear said, angrily at her sister.

“You’re right!” Said Red. “Could you tell me more about these Fairy Towers?”

Nepgear looked from Neptune, to Red and back to Neptune. Neptune wore a large smile on her face. “I guess my sister wasn’t trying to be mean after all.” Thought Nepgear. Nepgear took a deep breath, when she exhaled it she pulled out her N-Gear. “Sure. Let me tell you about the one near Planeptune.”

Nepgear told Red everything she needed to know about the Fairy Towers. She told her about how she can use them to get stronger, about share energy and about Histoire. “Histoire will help you if you have any questions. Just ask her.”

“Thanks!” Said Red.

“I’m glad we could take care of all this, but what about the people who lived in this village? Also why did they leave you behind?” Nepgear asked.

“Well…” Red began. “They probably spread out to the surrounding towns in hopes of finding help. Also they didn’t necessarily leave me behind. I stayed behind because I wanted to get rid of the monsters.”

“Oh… Cool.” Said Neptune.

“Thanks! I knew staying behind would impress any potential wifeys.” Red said, giggling. “Anyways, I’m going to Planeptune now!”

“Yeah, but how are you going to get there?” Neptune asked. “MAGES. Magic pudding train just left the station, remember?”

“That’s true…” Said Nepgear.

“Don’t worry! I remember how the train works. I’ll just follow the railroad tracks and hop on when it stops for me!” Said Red.

“Wait… The train stops for people?” Nepgear asked. “And this is all automatic?”

“Yeah! Cool, huh?” Asked Red.

“Cool indeed! Aw… Now I really wish I got up early and looked it over!” Nepgear said, as she started to pout.

“That’s my tech savvy sister for you.” Neptune said. “Anyways Red. We’ll see you later, okay?”

“Right!” Said Red. “Oh wait!” Red lightly smacked the side of her head. “I just remembered something! Can I see your map again?”

Nepgear held out her N-Gear for Red to look over. “You see this spot right here?” Red asked, pointing to a spot on the map. Nepgear looked the spot over, but it didn’t look very special. “Well if you go here, you’ll find a house where two of my other wifeys are living! If you tell them I sent you, they’ll help you out!”  

“Thanks!” Nepgear said.

“You’re welcome!” Said Red, happily. “Well then! I’ll see you two later!” Neptune and Nepgear turned to leave. “Oh yeah!” Red shouted at them. The Nep’s looked back at Red who was waving her hands wildly over her head. “The next time we meet, I’m seriously going to make you two my wifeys as well!”

Neptune narrowed her eyes at Red. “RING FIRST!” She shouted back.

Red giggled as she started making her way to the train station. “Well. We wrapped that up faster than I thought we would.” Nepgear admitted.

“Yeah. Good point.” Neptune said. “So do you want to meet Red’s wifeys next or not?”

Nepgear giggled. “I guess it wouldn’t hurt. Their home is really close to the last Fairy Tower.”

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 16

 MAGES. Led Neptune and Nepgear outside. The Nep’s were surprised to see that all the Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters were gone. “Where did the monsters go?” Neptune asked, as she looked around for any signs of them.

“They like to hide and surprise people.” Said MAGES. “Trust me. They’ll be back out as soon as we start walking towards the first spawner.”

“Great…” Nepgear said, as she glanced down at the energy sword she was holding. Thanks to the last few purchases Nepgear made before they left Planeptune, Nepgear was able to put the final touches on her weapon. Now the energy was consistent and her energy sword was far more reliable. Still, she couldn’t help but worry about it sometimes.

“Is everything alright small one?” Asked MAGES.

Nepgear forced a smile. “I’m fine.”

Neptune giggled. “Nepgear’s a worrier. She’ll be fine.”

MAGES. Nodded. “Very well then. Shall we go?”

Neptune and Nepgear ran around MAGES. And led the charge to the first spawner. The girls managed to run five feet away from the building when the Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters suddenly appeared. Their ghost like bodies zoomed through the air until they were close enough to attack.

Neptune leapt out of the way as several Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters attacked. As Neptune flew through the air, she twirled around and brought her katana down fast and swift. Her blade sliced through the monsters and with a bright flash, the creatures had vanished.

Nepgear swung her sword as well. She managed to slice through five of the creatures, before turning on her heels and killed three more.

MAGES on the other hand didn’t launch any attacks of her own. Instead she confidently strolled behind Neptune and Nepgear as they continued to kill the onslaught of monsters. A confident smile was on her face the entire time.

After ten minutes of this has passed, the girls managed to find the first spawner. The device had indeed been exposed thanks to the amount of Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters it had created. The device was long and cylindrical in shape. It was silver in color and the base of the device had dozens of blinking lights.

“There it is.” MAGES. Said, as she aimed her staff at the device. Fire fell from the sky and slammed into the device. With a loud boom, the device was completely destroyed. “One down. Three more to go.”

“Were getting there!” Neptune said, excitedly.

“Yeah. Let’s keep it up.” Said Nepgear, swallowing hard.

And with that, the three girls made their way to the next spawner and then the next and finally they reached the fourth one. After the forth spawner had been destroyed, MAGES. Turned her attention to the remaining Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters. “The Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters aren’t native to this region. So don’t worry about wiping them out.”

Neptune, Nepgear and MAGES. Launched themselves at the remaining monsters. Because Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters weren’t that powerful, the girls were easily able to defeat the rest of them.

Finally after several long moments, the monsters were gone. Neptune fell back and landed hard on her butt. “Oh man… That was a lot of work!”

“I agree.” Said Nepgear, as she fell to her knees.

MAGES. Tried to look fine, but she too was breathing rather hard. “It was but a trifle.” She said.

“Uh-huh… So you can handle those monsters over there.” Neptune asked, gesturing behind MAGES.

MAGES. Quickly spun around. “Actually I…” But stopped speaking when she noticed that nothing was behind her and Neptune was now wearing a large, mischievous smile. “I knew it was a trick.” She said. “Anyways, you two really helped me out. I appreciate it.”

“You’re welcome.” Nepgear said, forcing a smile. “So… Will you…?” Nepgear began.

MAGES. Took a deep breath. “It would be my honor to give you both a ride to the next town using my train.”

Neptune got to her feet and held a hand out to her sister. “Come on Nepgear. Let’s get going.” She said, smiling warmly at her sister.

Nepgear happily took Neptune’s hand. “Right.” She said.

Several moments later the girls were standing in the train station. MAGES. Pressed a few buttons on a nearby control panel. The wall located beside the train station split into two sections before it popped open. After that, the mechanical arms holding the train off the ground and onto its side started to move.

Nepgear noticed the roof located outside the building and spotted a track. “So that’s why there was a roof out there.” Nepgear though to herself.

The mechanical arms moved over the track before it gently placed the trains wheels down on the track.

“There we are.” MAGES. Said, before she pressed another button. Several doors in the train opened. “I need to have my drones restock the train. Give me about twenty minutes.” Said MAGES.

“No problem.” Said Neptune.

“Thank you!” Nepgear said.

“My pleasure. We’ll settle your tab afterwards.” Said MAGES.

“Huh? Tab?” Neptune said, surprised.

“You want us to pay?” Nepgear asked.

MAGES. Turned to Neptune. “It was a joke.” She said, plainly.

Neptune and Nepgear exchanged glances. “Are you sure?” Neptune asked, but MAGES. Didn’t answer. The drones that MAGES. Mentioned flew down from the ceiling carrying large metallic boxes and they disappeared somewhere into the train.

Neptune and Nepgear headed upstairs and waited until the train was ready to go. Once it was loaded up, MAGES. Made her way up to where the girls were sitting. “The train is ready.” MAGES. Said, crossing her arms in front of her chest. “I wanted to thank you both again for everything, but I also wanted to mention one other thing.”

“Is it about money?” Neptune asked.

“No.” MAGES. Said, dropping her arms by her sides. Neptune and Nepgear noticed how serious MAGES. Suddenly was.

“What’s going on?” Nepgear asked.

“Well… Even though I can’t divulge everything to you, I can say this. You need to tell others about the Fairy Towers.” Said MAGES..

“Really?” Nepgear asked.

“Yes. The Fairy Towers are critical and you need to make sure there are other people who know about them. I have a feeling that it’s going to pay off in the long run.” Said MAGES..

“We need to tell others, but you can’t tell us why?” Nepgear asked.

“I do apologize. All I can do is hope that you’ll take me seriously.” Said MAGES.. “And that’s all I’ll say on the matter.”

“Thanks MAGES..” Nepgear said, getting to her feet.

“Yeah. Thanks for the ride and all that.” Neptune said, giggling.

“You’re welcome.” Said MAGES..

Neptune, Nepgear and MAGES. Headed downstairs. Neptune and Nepgear stepped onto the train and turned back to say goodbye to their friend. “The train is completely automated, so you don’t have to worry about doing anything. I doubt I have to tell you this, but don’t get out of the train until it’s come to a complete stop.” Said MAGES..

“Thanks MAGES.!” Nepgear said, waving goodbye.

“We’ll see you later!” Said Neptune.

“Yes you will.” Said MAGES..

Neptune was about to ask MAGES. What she meant by that, but before she could utter a word the door closed and the train started to move. Neptune couldn’t help, but sigh deeply. “MAGES. Can be difficult, huh?” She asked.

“Yeah.” Nepgear said, taking a deep breath. “Anyways, let’s find a place where we can relax.”

“I won’t argue with that plan!” Neptune said.

Neptune and Nepgear made their way from the main train and into a car where they found a lavish room for themselves. The room had two beds located on the left and right sides of the room. A refrigerator located near the door and even a small bathroom located near the back.

“Whoa!” Neptune said, her eyes were filled with delight. “Look at this place?” Neptune opened the refrigerator and gasped. “It’s full of drinks and pudding! I love MAGES. Magic train!”

“It’s not magic big sis.” Nepgear said.

“So… How long are we going to be on this train anyways?” Asked Neptune.

Nepgear thought for a moment. “To be honest with you sis. I think were going to be here for at least until tomorrow morning. The Fairy Tower was moved quite a long distance.”

“Ah. I see…” Neptune said, as she reached into the refrigerator and removed two puddings. “Well we’ll just have to make the best of it.” She said, handing one of the puddings over to Nepgear.

Nepgear looked down at the pudding cup with a guilty look on her face. “I don’t know if we should eat any of this big sis.” Said Nepgear. “MAGES. Was nice enough to give this to us, but we shouldn’t take advantage of her.”

“Take advantage of what now?” Neptune asked.

Nepgear saw that Neptune had already torn off the lid of her pudding cup and was already digging into it with a spoon. “You’re terrible big sis!” Nepgear said, before she tore off the lid of he own pudding cup and started eating as well.

The two sisters sat side-by-side and devoured the pudding. “That was yummy.” Neptune said, falling back against the bed behind her. She still held the empty cup in her right hand and the spoon in her left. A look of satisfaction was on her face.

“We shouldn’t eat anymore though. MAGES. Was nice enough to give us a free ride.” Said Nepgear.

“Yeah, but we helped her with those monsters, remember?” Said Neptune.

“Yeah, but…” Nepgear began.

“GEESH!” Neptune sat up and narrowed her eyes at her sister. “Nepgear, you need to loosen up! If MAGES. Didn’t want to do this for us, she wouldn’t have, right?”

“That is true.” Nepgear said.

“See? Sometimes it’s best to just sit back and enjoy the gifts we were given! Now give me your spoon and pudding cup. I’ll throw them away.” Said Neptune, holding out her hands.

Nepgear smiled and handed them over to Neptune. “Thanks big sis.” She said.

“Of course! I’ll always look out for your sanitary needs.” And with that, Neptune leapt to her feet and made her way over to the door where she spotted a trashcan tucked between the refrigerator and wall. After tossing them inside, Neptune collapsed onto the bed. “My legs are starting to feel sore again.”

“Yeah.” Nepgear said. “I think it’s about time we take a nap.”

“Heh. My nap’s have a habit of going into over time Nepgear.” Neptune said.

“That’s true.” Said Nepgear, as she began kicking her feet. “Hey Neptune… Do you mind if we share a bed?”

Neptune giggled. “Sure! I don’t mind, but I’m going to sleep next to the wall. Okay?”

“Huh? Why?” Nepgear asked.

“Like I don’t know my brainy baby sister! At some point you’re going to wake up and think, ‘goodness how does this train work’? And you’re going to go investigate, right?” Neptune asked.

Nepgear’s eyes went wide and her cheeks grew bright red. “Well… Yeah.” She said.

“See? I know you like the back of my head. So I’ll take the spot near the wall. That way you don’t have to crawl over me to get out.” Said Neptune, as she pulled off her shoes.

“Thanks Neptune.” Nepgear said, smiling warmly at her sister.

Even though the girls were planning on sleeping, all they ended up doing was lie side-by-side staring up at the roof of the train car. Each girl’s mind was occupied by different thoughts, but they did share one thought. They really missed their home and their friends. “I wonder what IF and Compa are doing right now.” Nepgear said, breaking the silence.

“Knowing them, they’re probably working. IF’s a real workaholic.” Said Neptune. “I think after this quest I’m going to be worksober for a while.”  

“You’re always worksober Neptune.” Nepgear said.

Neptune took a deep breath, before she cuddled up with Nepgear. “Just for that I’m going to make it a bit harder for you to slip away and check out the train.”

“Oh… no…” Nepgear said, dreamily. Soon the two girls fell into a deep sleep.

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 15

 Neptune and Nepgear ran as fast as they could, but no matter how fast they ran the Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters were easily able to keep up. Neptune swung her sword to the left, slashing through their ghostly bodies while Nepgear dealt with the monsters on their right. However, no matter how many monsters the two girls cut down more appeared to take their place.

“What’s going on here?” Nepgear asked, as she finished dealing with five Ms. Clyde’s. Just as her energy sword hacked through them, six more appeared.

“I don’t know, but we’ll get a lot of share energy from them!” Neptune said, trying to find the positive in the situation.

Nepgear and Neptune continued to run for several long moments until they finally spotted a large white building in the distance. The building stood well over two stories tall. It had a balcony that wrapped around the entire building except for the side facing the railroad tracks. A roof hung over the railroad tracks for some reason.

“There it is!” Nepgear cried.

“Good. I need a break.” Neptune said.

Neptune and Nepgear closed their eyes and tried to run even faster than before. Unfortunately for them the Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters were able to keep up. A few of the Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters suddenly floated higher off the ground than usual before they slammed their foreheads into them.

“OW!” Neptune cried, rubbing the side of her head. “That’s not how we make friends!” Neptune said, as she slashed the creature in two using her katana. Nepgear sliced through the monster that hit her.

It felt like an eternity, but soon the girls were approaching the building. “HELLO!” Neptune cried out.

“WE NEED HELP!” Nepgear shouted.

A moment later a door on the second floor balcony opened and a woman with long blue hair appeared. The woman held a staff over her head and suddenly fire rained down from the sky striking the Clyde, Ms Clyde monsters and ground. The monsters quickly scattered giving Neptune and Nepgear a chance to breathe.

Without being asked, the girls ran through another door located on the bottom floor of the building. Slamming the door shut, the girls sank to their knees. “Well that was easy.”

“No.” Came a voice. “Things just got worse for you.”

Neptune and Nepgear glanced up and saw the blue haired girl striding over to where they sat. “Oh? It’s you two. Sorry about that.” The girl said.

“Who are you?” Asked Nepgear.

“My name is MAGES.” The woman explained.

“Mages?” Said Neptune.

“That’s MAGES. With a period at the end.” MAGES explained.

“That doesn’t make sense.” Neptune said, sighing deeply. “Anyways. Thanks for rescuing us.”

“Yes. Thank you.” Nepgear said, as she took off her backpack and reached inside. “By the way. How do you know us?”

MAGES. Smirked. “Of course I know you two, but I have a feeling I shouldn’t say how right now.” The woman said. “By the day. Do you have any Doc P?”

“Gross!” Neptune said.

“Are you the owner of the railroad?” Neptune asked.

“That’s right.” Said MAGES. “I’ve been in possession of the railroad for many years now.”

“In that case. This is for you.” Nepgear said, as she pulled out a bottle of Doc Tear Popper and handed it over to MAGES.

“Are you serious? You have some?!” MAGES. Cried out. The girl quickly pulled out a cell phone and started speaking into it. “Hello? Yes it’s me. I’ve obtained a bottle of Doc P. The drink of the chosen ones. Yes from allies!” MAGES said. “Yes. I’ll continue to investigate this realm. Loochs tneve emag noitamina cisum”

“Uh Nepgear? Who’s she talking to?” Neptune asked.

“I don’t think she’s talking to anyone.” Said Nepgear.

MAGES. Hung up her phone and slid it back into her pocket. “Sorry about that. I was merely speaking to the organization.” She said.

“Organization?” Nepgear asked.

“Never mind. Come! Doc P. should be enjoyed by everyone.” MAGES. Said, as she gestured for Neptune and Nepgear to follow her.

Now that the girls had a chance to breathe. They noticed just how amazing the building they were in actually was. The outside of the building looked rather skinny, but the building itself was long.

Located on the left side of the room was a large train and several train cars, but they were lying on their sides and being held in the air thanks to metallic arms. Located in the middle of the room were several large contraptions.

Nepgear and Neptune followed MAGES. Upstairs where they found several tables lined with all kinds of tools, contraptions and even a few guns. “What kind of place is this?” Nepgear asked, her eyes were sparkling with amazement.

“This is my workshop. When the train was in full service, I would spend my days creating all kinds of contraptions.” MAGES. Explained .”Unfortunately that was a long time ago to you.”

MAGES. Found two glasses and poured out some of the Doc Tear Popper into them  before handing them out to Neptune and Nepgear. After that, she tilted the bottle of Doc Tear Popper towards her lips and drank it down. “Delicious!” MAGES. Said.

Neptune and Nepgear looked skeptically down at the drink before they too drank some. “It is good!” Nepgear said.

“Puddings better.” Neptune said, in a small voice.

“So tell me. Even though I know the answer already, what brings you two out here?” MAGES. Asked.

“Well… We were hoping to get the train operational again.” Nepgear explained.

“I knew it.” MAGES. Said. Closing her eyes and smiling brightly. “Unfortunately that’s impossible and I have a feeling you know why.”

“The Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters, right?” Nepgear said.

MAGES’. smile vanished. “That’s correct.” She said.

“Why are there so many?” Neptune asked.

“Unfortunately I can’t give you all the details, but I might be able to tell you something’s.” MAGES. Said. “Tell me. Do you two know what a Fairy Tower is?”

“Duh!” Neptune said, saluting.

“Excellent. That makes this easier.” MAGES. Said, clearing her throat. “A while ago, I had a client who asked me to make a device that could infinitely spawn monsters. At the time, the only monsters that were located around here were Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters. They weren’t the strongest, but my experiment went off without a hitch.”

“I see…” Nepgear said, nodding. “So why would your client ask you to do that?”

“Simple. Located across the railroad tracks was a Fairy Tower.” Said MAGES. “My client was hoping to max out their stats by fighting an infinite amount of Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters, but unfortunately something big happened.”

“Big? Like what?” Nepgear asked.

MAGES. Smirked. “Unfortunately I can’t say right now. I can tell you that my experiment was tampered with. I used to have the power to shut the infinite spawners off using a simple remote. However, that remote is now missing. I can’t build a new one and the infinite spawners have been tampered with so they make new Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters at an incredible rate.”

“Yeah?” Neptune said, annoyed.

“Troubling of all was the fact that the Fairy Tower went missing.” Said MAGES.

“Do you know how many Fairy Towers are in Planeptune?” Nepgear asked.

“Three. No more and no less.” Said MAGES.

“I thought so.” Nepgear said, pulling out her N-Gear and showing MAGES. The screen. “Were on our way to this Fairy Tower now. I think that one used to be here, but it was moved.”

MAGES. Looked down at the screen. “Interesting, but the only one who could move a Fairy Tower is a goddess. Or someone who commands great power.” MAGES gasped before suddenly hiding her face with her hands. The girl peaked through her fingers and said, “of course I’m more than capable of moving a Fairy Tower, but would never dare do such a thing!”

“Uh-huh…” Neptune said, looking dully at MAGES. “Any how. What can we do to help?”

“Well if we could somehow turn off those spawners, would you be willing to drive the train again?” Nepgear asked MAGES.

“Of course.” MAGES. Said, smirking. “There are four spawners though and there all located underground.”

“Why underground?” Neptune asked.

“The spawners have a habit of overheating, so I buried them underground to make it easier on them. Also there was a cave system that would make it difficult for the Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters to come outside all at once. Instead they would have to float down a trail making it easier for my client to defeat them.” Said MAGES.

“Oh!” Nepgear said, perking up. “I think it’ll be easier for us to reach the spanwers!”

“What makes you say that?” Neptune asked. “Sounds like it’s going to be a pain in the butt.”

“Remember Neptune?” Nepgear began. “As we were fighting the monsters, we heard loud booms before. I think the Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters exploded out of the ground. If were lucky those spawners are now exposed!”

“Excellent!” MAGES. Said happily. “In that case. I think it would be easier to simply destroy the spawners instead of powering them down. A simple task for me, but…”

“Really? In that case Nepgear and I will let you handle it.” Neptune said, looking around. “Meanwhile do you have a bucket or two we can borrow? I feel like soaking my feet for a while.”

“Yeah. If Neptune’s not going, I don’t want to go either.” Nepgear said.

“Oh and do you have any pudding? Doc P. is okay, but nothing beats a cool cup of pudding!” Neptune said.

“Pudding please!” Nepgear said.

MAGES. Gasped. “Uh… Listen…” She began, but before she uttered another word MAGES. Pulled out her phone. “What’s that? Oh I see…” MAGES. Slid her phone back into her pocket. “Unfortunately I can’t go either. The organization needs me here and…”

“Just kidding!” Neptune said, throwing her arms around MAGES. Shoulder. “Of course we’ll go with you, but we expect some pudding later.”

“I see…” MAGES. Said. “In that case you two should rest for a moment while I gather a few things just incase.”

Neptune and Nepgear found two chairs to sit in. Once MAGES. Made her way downstairs, both girls burst into laughter. “She really thought we were going to let her do this on her own.” Nepgear said, giggling.

“Yeah, well I almost let her. My legs are tired.” Neptune said, as she lightly pounded her thighs using her fists.

“Yeah. I could use a rest too.” Nepgear said, taking a deep breath. “Seriously though. Did someone really move a Fairy Tower from here? It’s such a long distance.”

“Tell me about it. I bet our legs wouldn’t feel that bad if we had a Fairy Tower around here. We could level up and get rested.” Neptune complained.

Nepgear took a deep breath. “Yeah. It’s weird.”

“What is?” Asked Neptune.

“This stuff doesn’t really make sense. The fact that were remembering the names of monsters we’ve never seen before. A Fairy Tower being moved and the only thing that can move it being a goddess. Oh and this malfunctioning spawner that’s keeping the trains from running. It almost feels like it was written like this on purpose.”

“Whoa! Watch those fourth wall jokes sister. That’s my gimmick.” Neptune said, narrowing her eyes at Nepgear.

“Sorry. It just feels weird, that’s all.” Nepgear said.

MAGES. Returned a few moments later. “I have returned. Are you two ready?”

“Yep!” Neptune said, jumping to her feet. “Nepgear… If you want you can stay here. I’m sure MAGES. And I can deal with this alone.”

Nepgear smiled as she stood. “Don’t be silly. I can help.” She said. “But before we go out there, I would feel better if we knew exactly where these spanwers are located.”

MAGES. Nodded as she reached into her pocket and removed a map. After unfolding the map she laid it on the table. “This is where we are right now. The spanwers are located here.” MAGES. Said, gesturing towards four spots located on the map.

“So they aren’t near the railroad tracks, right?” Nepgear said.

“Yes, but that’s when the old system was in place. Now thanks to whoever sabotaged my machines, the Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters cover the tracks. If a train were to hit them, the train would end up crashing. In my time owning this railroad, I’ve never had a single crash.”

“Impressive!” Neptune said.

“Alright. This shouldn’t be too difficult. Neptune and I will watch over you MAGES. Once we get close to the spawners, just use your magic to destroy them.” Nepgear said.

“Sounds like a plan to me!” Neptune said.

“Sounds simple enough.” Said MAGES. Nodding. “Let’s do it.”

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 14

 The walk to their next destination seemed as though it would take the longest time to reach it. The sun was shining brightly and the heat was beating down on their heads. The Fairy Tower was located near the boarder of Planeptune. “This walk is going to kill me…” Neptune said, as she poked out her cute little tongue. The girl’s arms were swinging down by her sides lifelessly.

“I know.” Nepgear said, dabbing her forehead with the back of her hand. “This is pretty rough.”

Neptune and Nepgear exchanged glances before they both sighed deeply. “Maybe we should call Planeptune and ask Purple Heart for a plane or something. Maybe a guy with a hand glider can give us a lift?” Neptune offered.

Nepgear thought about this for a moment, before she furrowed her brow and shook her head. “How would that even work big sister?” Nepgear asked.

“I don’t know.” Neptune whined.

“Sister… how would that work?” Nepgear whined back.

Both girls groaned loudly, before Nepgear pulled out her N-Gear and started looking up information on it. “Uh sis… I was half joking about the hang glider.” Said Neptune, concerned that the heat and exhaustion had finally effected Nepgear’s brain.

“I know. I was joking too.” Nepgear said. “I was just looking up something that might help us.”

Nepgear didn’t say anything for a few moments, but soon she was making her way over to Neptune. “Check it out. I think I found something.” Nepgear said, holding her N-Gear out to Neptune.

Neptune read the information. “There’s a small town that has a railroad station? That’s cool, but I’m guessing this railroad doesn’t exactly go all the way to the Fairy Tower, huh?”

“True, but it does run pretty close to it.” Said Nepgear.

“Well it’s better than trying to walk all the way there. Let’s go!” Said Neptune, perking up a bit.

Even though the small town was the girl’s best and fastest way to get to the last Fairy Tower on Planeptune, it still took them awhile to reach it. The girls trudged along until they finally reached the town.

“Thank goodness. I didn’t think we’d ever get here.” Nepgear breathed.

“Yeah. I could go for some cold pudding right now.” Said Neptune.

The small town was made up of dozens of tiny houses, they passed by a few shops and eventually found themselves standing in front of the train station. “Neptune? Why don’t you get us something to drink while I buy our tickets, okay?”

“You got it little sister!” Neptune said, saluting.

It didn’t take Neptune very long to find a vending machine. After sliding her card into the machine, she bough two bottles of tea. Just as Neptune finished making her purchase, the girl her sister cry out.

“Oh no!” Nepgear cried.

Neptune looked down at the bottles of tea, before she sighed deeply. “This can’t be good.” She breathed, before turning to Nepgear and making her way over to her sister. “What’s wrong Nepgear?” She asked, handing one of the bottles over.

“The train isn’t running anymore.” Nepgear said, sadly.

“Why not?” Asked Neptune.

“Sorry, but the person who owns the train refuses to run it anymore.” Said a man, standing on the other side of a large counter. “It’s been like this for a while now.”

Neptune didn’t say anything. Instead she opened her bottle of tea and tipped the liquid into her mouth. After swallowing the sweet tasting tea, she sighed deeply. “Okay Nepgear. I have a brilliant idea.” Neptune began. “We’ll find this conductor and beat them up.”

“We can’t do that Neptune.” Nepgear said.

“Well what can we do?” Neptune asked, sighing deeply. “I’m tired. My feet hurt and this tea just makes me wish we had something to eat. I want to go home and play video games, but I have destiny to complete or something…” Neptune said, as she swayed side-to-side.

Nepgear nodded her head several times. “Well we’ll just have to figure something else out.”

Neptune and Nepgear didn’t say anything for a while, which made the man behind the ticket counter feel awkward. “Um…” He began, clearing his throat. “Maybe… You could talk to her?”

“I wish, but once Nepgear makes up her mind about something-” Neptune began, but the man cut her off.

“No. I mean talk to the person who owns the train. Maybe you can convince her to run the train again.” The man suggested.

“And then beat her up!” Neptune said, perking up a little.

“We’ll talk to her.” Nepgear said, looking hard at her sister. “Where can we find her?”

The man pointed at the railroad track. “If you follow that for about five miles north. You’ll run into a white building that’s sitting really close to the track. You’ll see the old train and where the owner lives. Oh and the owner is also the conductor of the train.” Said the man.

“More walking? Can someone give us a ride?” Neptune asked.

The man shook his head. “Sorry, no one in this town owns a vehicle.”

“Stupid…” Neptune said, in a small voice. “Well… I mean do we have to leave right now? I’m tired!”

Nepgear looked at a clock that was located beside the ticket counter. “You’re right. It’s pretty late. We should get some rest somewhere.” Nepgear suggested.

“There’s a hotel next door.” The man said, gesturing towards the wall on his right side.

“Thanks!” Nepgear said, smiling at the man. “Come on sis. Let’s get a room.”

“Yah!”  Neptune cheered.

The hotel the man recommended was incredibly small. There were only five rooms they could choose from, but the Nep’s decided to share one. Nepgear opened the door to their hotel room and peered inside.

The room was small, but it was clean. The room only had one bed, a television and a very small bathroom. “This is nice.” Nepgear said.

Neptune said, sitting on the bed and kicking off her shoes. “Let‘s be honest Nepgear. If this room was half the size, we’d still think it was nice. This bed is going to feel so good!” With those words, Neptune fell back against the bed and closed her eyes. Almost instantly Neptune felt an intense pain in her legs.

“Ow! Ow! Ow!” Neptune winced, as pain ripped through her legs.

Nepgear had sat down and leaned back herself. She too was feeling the pain. “We really need to workout more.” Nepgear said, wincing as the muscles in her legs throbbed.

“Hey Nepgear. Were getting plenty of exercise right now.” Said Neptune.

“That’s true.” Nepgear said, a small smile appeared on her face. Nepgear opened her eyes. “I think we should eat something before we go to sleep. We still have a few more hours of daylight left too.”

“Yeah… Let’s eat.” Neptune said.

Nepgear forced herself up and looked over at Neptune. Neptune looked as though she had already fallen asleep. Nepgear opened her mouth to say something, but quickly changed her mind. “I’ll get us some food Neptune. You relax.” Said Nepgear, as she stood up and headed out of the room.

Nepgear found a restaurant close by and ordered a few meals for herself and Neptune. The restaurant, like the rest of the town, was incredibly small. The restaurant only had about ten tables and only a few people working there. “Just passing through?” Asked the cashier, who was an elderly woman.

“Yeah. How’d you know?” Nepgear asked.

“Small town. I know everyone who lives here.” The old woman said.

“Oh right.” Nepgear said, giggling. “Me and my sister are passing through. Were hoping to get the railroad station back up and running.”

“Really?” The elderly woman said. “So are you buying out the owner, or what?”

“No. Nothing like that.” Said Nepgear. “Were hoping to talk to her tomorrow.”

“I see.” The elderly woman said, before turning suddenly and abruptly walking away.

“Uh…” Nepgear began, but the elderly woman vanished somewhere into the kitchen. Nepgear blinked her eyes several times before her shoulders sagged. “Maybe I offended her somehow?” The girl thought to herself.

“Here you are dear.” Said the elderly woman, placing a bottle down in front of Nepgear.

Nepgear looked down at the bottle in confusion. “Huh? What’s this for?” She asked.

“It’s a favorite drink of the conductor.” The elderly woman explained. “It’s called Doc Tear Popper. If you’re trying to convince her of anything, that drink would go a very long way.”

“Aw! Thank you!” Nepgear said, taking up the bottle in her hands. “How much do I owe you?”

“It’s on the house dear.” The old woman said.

“Thanks!” Nepgear said.

After the cook brought out Nepgear’s order, she headed outside and made her way back to the hotel. Once inside, Nepgear found Neptune was now investigating the television. “What are you looking at sis?” Nepgear asked.

“I’m looking for a video game console! I don’t see one.” Neptune said, sadly. “I’m starting to think I won’t be playing any games on this trip.”

“Sorry.” Nepgear said. “Anyways, I bought us some burgers!”

“Ooh! That’s my little sister for you!” Neptune said, as Nepgear handed her a bag. “What’s that?” She then asked, looking at the bottle of Doc Tear Popper Nepgear held under her arm.

“This lady told me about this drink. She said that the conductor loves it, so we should try giving it to her tomorrow.” Said Nepgear.

“Awesome! Food and sleuthing. Very nice Nepgear!” Neptune said.

Nepgear blushed a little. “I never get tired of your compliments.” Nepgear said.

“Well you deserve them all!” Neptune said, as she opened the bag of burgers Nepgear had purchased for them. “Let’s eat!”

Neptune and Nepgear at their meals. After that, they watched a little television, but they couldn’t keep their minds on whatever they were watching. The girls kept thinking about everything that had happened to them up to that point.

Nepgear also remembered how she nearly lost her sister the other day. Something she never wanted to experience again. “I think I’m going to sleep Nepgear.” Neptune said, as she crawled under the blankets. “Good night.”

Nepgear turned off the television and crawled under the blankets as well. “Good night Neptune.” The girl said. Soon the two had drifted off to sleep.

The next morning Neptune and Nepgear awoke early and headed outside. The girls wanted to get some breakfast before they headed to the building where the owner of the train station lived.

After enjoying a plate of pancakes, the two girls found the railroad tracks and started following them north. “I really hope this lady is actually living out here.” Neptune said, taking a deep breath.

“Same here. If she’s not then I suggest we keep following these railroad tracks to the next town. Though it’ll be a long walk.” Nepgear said.

“Now I really hope this lady is living out here.” Neptune said, nervously.

Neptune and Nepgear stopped in mid-step when they felt something strange. At first it felt as though dozens of eyes were watching them. Soon the girls realized that they were right.

Dozens of tiny creatures flooded out of the wilderness and quickly encircled them. Neptune and Nepgear summoned their weapons and stood with their backs pressed against each other.

“Great… More work!” Neptune said.

Nepgear looked out at all the monsters. “Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters.” Nepgear muttered.

“Well these things aren’t too tough.” Neptune said. “Let’s get em’ little sis!” Neptune said.

Neptune and Nepgear leapt at the monsters and swung their blades wildly. Neptune managed to cut down several Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters before they could react. Nepgear managed to cut down several herself. Soon the monsters had thinned out a bit, but more of the monsters started pouring out of the wilderness after them.

Nepgear took a nervous breath. “Sis?”

“Yeah?” Neptune said, as she cut down two more Clyde monsters, before turning her eyes towards a small group of Ms. Clyde monsters that were flying towards her.

“I don’t think these things are slowing down. More of them are coming!” Nepgear said.

“Yeah… I noticed that too.” Neptune said.

The ground beneath Neptune and Nepgear’s feet started to tremble. With several loud booms, the Clyde and Ms. Clyde monsters exploded out of the ground and instantly started flying after the two girls.

“What do we do?” Nepgear asked, feeling even more nervous than before.

“Uh… one guess.” Neptune said, and with those words the two girls began running as fast as they could.

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 13

 Arfoire opened her eyes and sat up in bed. Her head was spinning and she felt a twinge of pain between her eyes. “What is this?” Arfoire wondered, as she threw her covers off of her and swung her feet over the side of the bed. Arfoire closed her eyes tightly and began massaging her eyes.

Arfoire had gotten back from a quest early and decided to take a nap before trying to take on any other quests. Her friends IF and Compa both told her how hard she had been working, but warned her not to overdo it.

“Is this what they were talking about?” Arfoire wondered out loud.

As Arfoire spoke, her mind was flooded with a million thoughts, but it was impossible for her to make sense of them. Finally the pain subsided and so did her dizziness. “What was that?” Arfoire wondered, as she stood.

Arfoire wasn’t sure why, but she had felt this kid of thing several times in the past. “I hope I’m not sick or anything.” Arfoire made her way into her kitchen and poured herself a glass of water. After that she brought the glass up to her lips and started sipping the cold liquid.

Several days ago Arfoire had met IF and Compa while staying at the hospital. Thanks to them, she was able to find some steady work completing quests. They even helped her find an apartment.

The apartment wasn’t that fancy though. It had one large room that acted as both her living room and bedroom. She had a small kitchen and a bathroom and that was about it. She did have a nice balcony that faced another large building, but she could look down at the street and watch people walk past.

Arfoire placed her glass in the sink before heading back into the main room of her apartment. Taking a seat on her bed, she buried her face in her hands. “Alright. Let’s make sense of this.” Arfoire thought to herself.

“For some reason I feel dizzy and I get this weird pain. After that I start to feel better, but memories start flooding back into my head. Why?” Arfoire wondered, aloud. “I remember things I shouldn’t remember too! Like what are DQN zombies and what’s a HachimaJin?” Arfoire asked herself.

Even though Arfoire didn’t know what those things were, she had a feeling that they were actually monsters. There were other monsters she remembered as well. “Maybe I need to take another nap.” Arfoire thought, as she started leaning back.

The sound of knocking erupted from the front door, causing Arfoire to groan loudly. “So much for that idea.” She breathed.

Arfoire stood and made her way to her front door. Standing on the other side was IF and Compa. “Hello Arfoire!” Compa said, smiling brightly.

“Sorry to drop in on you like this.” IF said, the girl was holding a box in front of her.

“It’s no problem. Come on in.” Arfoire said, stepping aside so the two girls could walk past her.

“Are you okay?” Compa asked.

Arfoire nodded her head. “Yeah, just a bad dream.” Arfoire said, almost forgetting how perceptive Compa was.

“Are you getting enough sleep? You really shouldn’t work so much you know.” Compa said, worriedly. “Have you eaten anything today? I can make you something really yummy.”

“I’m okay, I’m okay!” Arfoire said, the woman couldn’t help but smile. “I didn’t meant to worry you or anything.

IF sighed. “That’s Compa for you. She worries about everyone and she takes care of everyone too.” IF sat the large box she was carrying down. “But she’s right. If there’s anything you need just let us know.”

“Thanks.” Arfoire said. “Why are you two always so nice to me? You don’t know me and you don’t owe me anything. So…”

“Were friends, right?” Compa said.

“That’s right!” Said IF. “Speaking of which… Aren’t you going to ask me about this box?”

Arfoire turned to the large box that IF had carried into her apartment. “I was wondering.” She admitted.

“Try opening it.” Said IF.

Arfoire made her way over to the box, but hesitated. “Is something going to spring out from this box, or scream boo?” She asked.

“Don’t know. Don’t remember.” IF said, shrugging her shoulders.

Arfoire sighed deeply, before turning her attention back to the box. After a few moments more of hesitation, Arfoire reached down and pulled off the lid. At first, Arfoire had no idea what she was looking at. “What is… This?” She muttered, as she reached inside and felt cloth.

Arfoire pulled the object out and gasped. She was holding a large, long brimmed, dark purple hat. “Oh my.” Arfoire said. “Is this for me?”

“Of course!” Compa said, happily. “We remembered you saying something about losing your hat so we decided to pick a new one out for you.”

“We wanted to find something that matched your unique style.” IF said, not wanting to mention that the girls went to a Halloween shop first.

“This is amazing!” Arfoire said, as she placed the hat on her head. “Thank you so much!” Arfoire wore a large smile on her face, as she showed the hat off to her friends.

“I’m glad you like it!” Compa said. “We were a little worried that it might not fit, but I’m glad we were worried for nothing.”

IF giggled. “Well Compa. Worry is what we do best.”

“That’s true.” Compa said. “Anyways Arfoire. Would you like me to make you something to eat?” The girl asked, turning to Arfoire’s kitchen.

“I couldn’t ask you to do that. After you gave me this hat.” Arfoire said.

“It’s no problem. I’d be happy to cook for you!” Compa said.

“You should just let her cook for you Arfoire. She’ll worry even more if you don’t.” Said IF.

Arfoire’s shoulders sagged. “Well if it means that Compa won’t worry. I guess I don’t mind.”

“Great!” Compa said, as she made her way into Arfoire’s kitchen.

“It’s a pretty small kitchen, huh? Sorry if it’s so cramped.” Said Arfoire, as she took a seat on her bed.

“Don’t worry about it. It doesn’t bother me.” Compa said, as she opened Arfoire’s refrigerator to see what kind of food she had inside. “How does a nice hotpot sound?” She asked.

“Sounds great!” Arfoire said, though she wasn’t sure what a hotpot even was. “That’s weird. Hotpot does sound like something I should know, but I don’t. I know what a DQN zombie is, zombie dogoo. I know that HachimaJin can create monsters, but I don’t know what a hotpot is.” Arfoire’s eyes went wide for a moment. “Wait… How did I know that HachimaJin could make monsters? I just remembered it a moment ago.”

“Are you okay?” IF asked, in a small voice.

“I’m alright.” Arfoire said.

“You can talk to us.” Said IF.

Arfoire looked down at her feet for a moment, before she turned her eyes to IF who wore a concerned look on her face. “Listen… IF…”Arfoire began, grabbing the brim of her hat and pulling it down so her eyes were hidden. “Have you ever remembered something that you can’t make sense of?”

“Uh…” IF began, tapping her lower lip thoughtfully. “Not really, but you have to remember that you’re suffering from amnesia. It’s normal for you to start remembering things that you can’t make sense of.”

“Yeah, but…” Arfoire began. “For some reason the only thing I’m remembering now are the names of monsters. Why is that?”

IF shook her head. “Don’t know.” IF thought about this for a few moments. “Maybe you really were a monster hunter or something. If it was your profession than it would explain quite a bit.”

“Maybe.” Arfoire said. “I do feel like I’ve traveled around the world before. Staying in one city feels new to me.”

IF nodded. “I’m sorry Arfoire. I wish I had some advice for you about this. I’m sure you’re going to learn a lot about yourself as time goes on. You’re not in this alone though, so if you start feeling overwhelmed just call me or Compa, okay? It doesn’t matter how late it is, we’ll pick up and help.”

“Thanks IF.” Arfoire said.

IF giggled. “To be honest with you. Compa and I have a couple of friends named Neptune and Nepgear. I really can’t wait to introduce you to them.”

“Neptune?” Arfoire said. For a moment the name hung in the air, but soon Arfoire felt gripped with anger. Her hands shook a bit and she had to squeeze them shut just to stop the shaking.

“Yeah. Neptune’s goofy and Nepgear’s the mature one. You’d think that Nepgear was the older sister, but she’s actually the youngest.” IF explained.

“They both sound lovely.” Arfoire said. “Why do I hate them so much?” Arfoire wondered to herself. “I don’t even know who this Neptune and Nepgear are, but I know that I hate them! Same with the goddess of Planeptune! I haven’t even spoken to them! Or… Maybe I have?”

Arfoire forced the thought out of her head as she and IF patiently waited for Compa to finish cooking dinner for them. After dinner, IF and Compa excused themselves. “We’ll see you later!” Compa said.

“See you!” IF said.

“Bye!” Arfoire said, waving goodbye to her friends. Arfoire gently closed the door before turning around and pressing her back against the door behind her and then she took a deep breath. “I was going to go on another quest, but now its too late.” Even though Arfoire wanted to feel annoyed, she couldn’t bring herself to feel that way. Instead she pushed off the door and headed back into her living room.

The box that IF had brought had been left behind. “I wonder if she’s going to want that back. I’ll hold onto it.” Arfoire said, as she took the box and found a corner for it to sit in. After that Arfoire turned on her television and started flipping through the many channels.

“ Feel uneasy now. Like I’m waiting for something bad to happen.” Arfoire thought to herself.

“I’m really glad that Arfoire liked her hat.” Compa said, walking next to IF. “I hope she wears it all the time.”

“Same here.” Said IF.

“So…” Compa began, trying to find the right words. “Arfoire’s feeling kind of down, huh?”

“You heard us?” IF asked.

Compa shook her head. “Every once in a while she would look a particular way and I could tell she was worried about something.” Said Compa. “Something’s on her mind, huh?”

“Yeah.” Said IF. IF told Compa everything that Arfoire had mentioned to her. When she finished, IF mentally kicked herself. “I hope Arfoire doesn’t mind me telling you this.”

“I’m sure she won’t mind.” Said Compa, giggling. “Anyways, I think you’re right. Maybe Arfoire was just a monster hunter, but it’s hard to tell. Overtime she’ll regain more of her memories. We just have to be there for her when she gets them all back.”

“You’re right.” IF said.

Compa and IF continued to walk in relative silence for a few moments before both girls started thinking about Neptune and Nepgear at the same time. “I wonder what Neptune would say to Arfoire if she were here. I mean she lost her mem…” IF began, but her words trailed off.

“Yeah. I remember when we first met Neptune had lost…” Compa began, but stopped speaking as well.

Both Compa and IF exchanged glances with each one another. “Wait… Neptune lost her memory before? When?” IF asked.

“I don’t know.” Compa said. “It just slipped out before I thought about it.” Suddenly both Compa and IF winced in pain. A strange pain formed in the space between their eyes and they also started feeling a bit dizzy.

The pain and dizziness suddenly stopped and the girls were left breathing hard. “That was weird.” IF said, rubbing the spot between her eyes.

“Yeah.” Compa agreed. “Did you remember anything else?” Compa asked.

“Maybe.” IF said. “Nothing substantial. I just remember the times we spent with Neptune and Nepgear, but I don’t remember exactly.”

“Yeah. I remember we met Nep-Nep after she had gotten hurt once and I had to take care of her. That’s also around the time we met Ge-Ge too, right? Do you remember that?”

“I do.” IF said, taking a deep breath. “Let’s go home and get some rest. Maybe were both tired.”

“Yeah.” Compa said, but both girls had a feeling there was more to all this. 

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 12

Neptune and Nepgear weren’t prepared for what they saw the moment the large doors opened. Standing in the hallway directly in front of them were dozens of monsters. The monsters all varied in size and shape and all of them looked as though they were half-dead.

The creatures comprised of sickly looking dogoo who had razor sharp teeth. Dogs who’s bones were exposed and even giant lizards that had strange hair growing out of their heads and metal claws on their hands.

The creatures roared in defiance as they started marching towards the two girls. Neptune quickly swung her sword as a dogoo attacked her. The girl was able to block the attack and with a flick of her wrist she was able to slice the creature in two. After that Neptune started swinging her sword wildly. Her blade sliced through the air, cutting down anything that got in her way.

“Come on Nepgear! We have to-” Before Neptune could finish speaking, a giant lizard ran forwards and slammed it’s claws into the side of Neptune’s head, sending her flying backwards.

“NEPTUNE!” Nepgear screamed.

Neptune flew backwards several feet before she slammed into the ground and rolled for several feet before coming to a rest. Nepgear turned and ran after her sister. She could see a little blood on the side of Neptune’s head. “Neptune…” Nepgear cried. Nepgear pointed her hand at Neptune.

“HEAL!” Nepgear cried.

Neptune’s body started to shine brightly. When that glow vanished, Neptune slowly opened her eyes. “What… happened?” She asked.

“You were hurt!” Nepgear said, turning back to the monsters. The monsters were making their way into the room. Dozens of tiny dogoo skittered in first while the dogs and lizards took their time. “Can you get up?” Nepgear asked, after she sliced through several zombie dogoo that attacked.

“No… I… can’t.” Neptune breathed.

Nepgear looked down at her sister. For a split-second she thought her sister was joking, but could see that Neptune was still seriously injured. “Okay sis. Hold on!” Nepgear fell to her knees and grabbed Neptune with one hand and pulled her sister over her left shoulder. After that, Nepgear stood.

After that Nepgear made her way over to the metal ladder that led up to the flood controls located overhead. Nepgear sent her weapon away just as she reached the ladder and then she began climbing up the ladder as fast as she could.  

As Nepgear climbed, she watched helplessly as the monsters continued to march towards her. Their beady black eyes were locked on the two sisters.

Nepgear managed to climb up the ladder and into the flood control room. After that, she looked down at the controls. “I hope this works.” Nepgear breathed, as she pressed a single green button. A loud alarm started blaring. After that, a large panel in the ceiling opened and water fell.

At first only a little water started to fall, but soon gallons upon gallons fell into the room. The pressure of the water slammed against the portal generator and the monsters. The monsters tried to keep their balance, but the pressure of the water caused them to trip and be pushed against the walls of the room and out of the door and down the hallway.

After that Nepgear, still carrying Neptune, leapt out of the room. At first, Nepgear was certain her feet or legs would start hurting the moment she landed, but surprisingly she felt no pain. She effortlessly landed on the ground.

“Are you okay sis?” Nepgear asked.

“Fine…” Neptune breathed. “I have a question though. Could I always see out of one eye, or did I have vision in both?”

“Oh no! Hold on Neptune!” Nepgear cried. Nepgear felt like crying. Her eyes were burning and a lump formed in her throat, but the girl knew she didn’t have time for that. Nepgear knew she needed to get Neptune back to the Fairy Tower.

Nepgear ran through the room and back into the hallway. Water was everywhere and the monsters were struggling to get back to their feet. Thanks to the height of the water, the dogoo weren’t able to gain any traction on the ground and helplessly floated across the water.

Nepgear summoned her energy sword when she noticed a lizard had managed to stand and was leaping at her.

Nepgear swung her sword, cutting the monster down with a single slash. After that, Nepgear leapt into the air and spun. As she spun around, she sliced the creature in the back of the head.

Before Nepgear’s feet touched the ground, the creature vanished as though it were never there.

“Nepgear? Can we have some pudding after this? I think we earned some.” Neptune asked.

“Of course big sis!” Nepgear cried.

Nepgear turned down the first hallway they had come through before, but stopped when she saw dozens of lizard monsters standing around waiting for them. “No…” Nepgear breathed.

Nepgear felt like giving up hope, but shook her head. “Let’s go to the storage room. Maybe…” Nepgear thought, as she turned on her heels and started running.

Even though there were dozens of monsters still in the hallway, Nepgear managed to get to the storage room without having to use her energy sword. Once inside, Nepgear glanced around the room hoping to find what she was looking for.

The storage room was enormous. The room was filled with shelves, crates and other items the researchers needed in order to live and continue their work. “What are we doing in here?” Neptune asked, dreamily.

“Hopefully we can escape from here.” Nepgear said. Nepgear began running around the massive shelves and carefully squeezed herself and Neptune between large crates. As they ran, the girls heard the sound of the lizard monsters forcing their way into the room. The sounds of their talons scraping across the bare floor sent shivers down the Nep’s spines.

“We have some hungry boys coming.” Neptune said. “Feed them a Nep sandwich Gear. Leave me behind.”

“NO!” Nepgear screamed. “I won’t leave you behind! We’ll both feed those monsters!”

“No way! Keep running…” Neptune said, before giggling.

Nepgear finally reached the end of the room. A look of delight appeared on her face. “I knew it! A hydraulic freight elevator!” Nepgear said.

Nepgear ran over to the hydraulic freight elevator and gently laid Neptune down. After that, she turned to the control panel and pressed the up button. A loud siren went off, but soon it had died down and the elevator started to move upwards.

Nepgear held her energy sword out in front of her as the lizard monsters appeared. “Neptune! Hold on!” Nepgear said, as she leapt at the giant monsters and swung her sword.

The two lizard monsters screamed in anger as Nepgear’s sword cut their chests. The creatures took several steps backwards, before they rushed at Nepgear and snapped their jaws at the girl.

Nepgear avoided their attacks by mere inches and took a step back herself. “Come on you bastards!” Nepgear screamed.

“Language.” Neptune said, from the hydraulic freight elevator.

“Sorry.” Nepgear called back.

One of the monsters swung it’s claws at Nepgear, but the girl was able to block it with her energy sword. After that she pushed the creature back with all her might, before quickly cutting down the monster that was on her right side.

The monster roared before it vanished. Leaving only one of the creatures left.

Nepgear glanced over her shoulder. The hydraulic freight elevator was now five feet in the air and it’s speed was starting to get faster.

Nepgear took several steps backwards before she bent down and then leapt high into the air. The lizard monster watched as Nepgear landed gracefully on the elevator.

The lizard monster opened its maw wide before it too leapt upwards. Before the creature could grab the elevator, Nepgear pointed the tip of her energy sword at the creatures head and plunged it’s blade deep into the creatures head. The lizard monster’s body went limp before it vanished completely.

“I did it…” Nepgear breathed, collapsing onto the elevator.

“Good job Nepgear. Head pats later. I need a nap.” Neptune breathed.

“NO!” Nepgear cried. Nepgear ran over to her sister and began tickling Neptune’s cheeks. “Please stay awake Neptune.” Nepgear could see a bruise on the side of Neptune’s head.

“Okay, okay. No fair tickling me. I can’t move.” Neptune said, her voice sounded weakened.

Nepgear felt warm tears trickling down her cheeks, but angrily wiped them away. “Were almost to the surface. I’ll take you to the Fairy Tower after this, okay? Just hang on for me!” Nepgear cried.

“Of course.” Neptune said, smiling weakly.

Just as Nepgear had hoped. The hydraulic freight elevator had led outside the house Neptune and Nepgear had entered earlier. Once they were outside, Nepgear felt a pang of hope.

Carefully picking her sister back up, this time she cradled Neptune in her arms. After that Nepgear began running through the forest until they reached the Fairy Tower.

“Neptune, Nepgear!” Histoire said, happily. “I’m eager to hear…” Histoire stopped speaking the moment she noticed the distress on Nepgear’s face.

“Sorry Histoire, but please hold on.” Nepgear said, as she ran up to a terminal. Nepgear grabbed Neptune’s right hand and pressed it against the terminal.

At first nothing seemed to have changed. Neptune’s condition didn’t change. Her eyes were closed and her head still looked bruised. “Please big sis… Get better…” Nepgear closed her eyes and started crying. Tears streamed down her bright red cheeks and her shoulders trembled.

“Nepgear?” Neptune said.

“Yes sis?” Nepgear asked, opening her eyes. Nepgear’s eyes went wide and her cheeks grew even brighter red in color than they were before.

“How long are you going to carry me princess style?” Neptune asked.

“Neptune? Are you okay?” Nepgear asked, noticing the bruise on Neptune’s face had healed.

“I’m fine!” Neptune said, giggling. “Thanks for all your hard work Nepgear. I thought-” Neptune continued speaking, but Nepgear couldn’t hear her. The reason was simple. Nepgear started hugging Neptune close to her and now Neptune’s words were coming out muffled.

“I’m so happy!” Histoire said. “The Fairy Tower certainly is a mysterious thing, isn’t it?”

“It is, but I’m glad it exists!” Nepgear said.

Nepgear loosened her grip on Neptune. “And in conclusion. I thank you.” Neptune said. “Okay! So what’s next?” She asked.

“Next? Next you should rest for a while.” Nepgear said, letting her sister slide out of her arms. “I need to look at this information first.”

“Rest? With pudding, right?” Neptune said.

“Yeah! Let’s eat all of it!” Nepgear said, happily.

“Oooh! That’s what I like to hear!” Neptune said.

Neptune retrieved two puddings from her backpack and handed one of them over to Nepgear. Nepgear didn’t start eating right away. She first made sure her sister was able to eat something first. After Neptune shoveled two large spoonfuls of pudding into her mouth, Nepgear opened her pack and started eating as well.

“Sorry Histoire.” Nepgear began, after noticing Histoire was watching them. “I know you want this information, but I suddenly felt weak there.”

“No.” Histoire said, shaking her head. “Your health is more important, but after you finish eating you should probably touch the Fairy Tower as well. Just to be safe.”

“Yeah. Good idea.” Nepgear said.

Nepgear and Neptune continued to eat their pudding in silence. Neptune was happy to be able to eat another pudding, while Nepgear couldn’t help, but think about everything the two had just been through to escape. “We need to get stronger.” Nepgear said.

“I agree. For pudding!” Neptune said, holding up her empty cup.

“No. For each other.” Nepgear said, turning her eyes towards Neptune. “I almost lost you Neptune. I don’t want to go through that ever again!”

“Yeah… I know.” Neptune said, nodding her head several times. “Sorry Nepgear. I shouldn’t have made you worry like that.”

Nepgear shook her head. “It’s alright. We’ll get stronger and be better together.”

“Right!” Neptune said. Neptune and Nepgear gave one another a high five. After that, Neptune placed her hand on Nepgear’s head. “Good girl!”

Nepgear giggled and blushed, before a stream of tears began flowing. Neptune placed her hand on Nepgear’s shoulder and pulled her sister close to her. “There, there Nepgear.”

When Nepgear was finally able to settle down, she got to her feet and placed her hand on the terminal. She felt whatever exhaustion and pain quickly disappear. “Thanks Histoire. Sorry about the trouble.”

“No trouble at all.” Said Histoire.

“Alright. Let’s get started.” Nepgear said. Neptune and Nepgear both took their time and told Histoire everything they knew about the facility. While Neptune talked, Nepgear pulled out her N-Gear and started looking up information about the house on it. “It looks like the house was built in about a weeks time. They were worried that people might come to investigate, so they had a fake family living there.” Nepgear read.

“Interesting. So what happened to all the researchers?” Asked Histoire.

“I bet they ran off once that Hachi dude started spawning in all those trash mobs.” Said Neptune.

“That may be true.” Said Nepgear. “We didn’t find any holding cells for monsters.”

“Maybe they didn’t really need holding cells.” Histoire offered. “Maybe they were only researching a handful of those monsters at a time.”

“That could be.” Nepgear said.

“So what now?” Asked Neptune, crossing her arms in front of her chest. “Should we go back and find the self destruct button? I don’t mind, but I don’t want to carry the fuel supply capsule.”

“No.” Histoire said. “Considering everything you’ve told me, I’ll try to hack into the building myself and learn everything that I can. Though it might take me three weeks to accomplish.”

“Okay.” Nepgear said. “Well… I guess we should be going.”

“Thank you two for everything.” Histoire said, bowing a little. “Please be careful in the future Neptune.”

“Hey! Why did you single me out?” Neptune asked. “Oh right…”

“We’ll be careful. Thanks histoire!” Nepgear said. Nepgear took Neptune’s hand. “Come on big sis. Let’s head for the next Fairy Tower!”

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 11

 Even though Nepgear was happy and felt safe with her sister, she still couldn’t help, but feel uneasy. “Sis is the strongest girl I know, but she was almost… I don’t want to think about it. I just have to step up my game and help keep her safe!” Nepgear thought, as she made her way back over to her N-Gear.

“How are we looking over there?” Asked Neptune, eager to travel deeper into the facility.

“Almost finished.” Nepgear said, trying to hide her nervousness. “All those DQN zombies really surprised me. I understand that the people in this facility were studying them, but what happened? Did they escape or what?”

“What if the people from this facility were those DQN zombies?” Neptune said, in a scary voice. Neptune’s eyes went wide. “Whoa! I scared myself there for a second. I’m sure the people who worked here fled and those DQN zombies were left behind, you know?”

“That’s true. DQN zombies don’t need food, water or anything really. They could throw their heads at high velocities and are physically strong. Even if they were locked up, given enough time I’m sure they could have broken their holding cells and escape.” Nepgear said.

A few moments later and Nepgear had unplugged her N-Gear from the computer tower and started looking it over. “Alright. Were finished here. I’ll go through this data while we walk.”

“Alright, but watch where you’re going. Nothing hurts more than walking head first into a wall.” Neptune warned.

“Right.” Nepgear said, nodding.

Nepgear and Neptune made their way to the open door. After taking a few deep breaths they stepped through the threshold and started walking.

The only sounds the girls could hear were the sounds of their footsteps. Nepgear’s heart was pounding loudly in her ears. The sound was so loud that she wondered if her sister could hear it.

“This place is spooky…” Neptune breathed.

“It is.” Said Nepgear, closing her eyes for a moment and shaking the thought out of her head. When Nepgear opened her eyes back up she looked down at her N-Gear and started going through the information. “Alright… According tot his the reason why the people in this facility were monitoring the Fairy Tower is because they were trying to unlock the secrets of it’s regenerative powers.”

“What does that mean?” Neptune asked.

“Remember when we touch the Fairy Tower our wounds heal? That’s basically it.” Said Nepgear. “One researcher in particular wanted to say magic was the cause, but they thought their colleagues would scoff at the idea.” Nepgear said.

“Sounds about right. Scientists are all business all the time.” Neptune said.

“They did hypothesize that nanomachines could be the cause as well.” Said Nepgear. “They thought about taking the Fairy Tower apart to find the real reason, but it looks like Histoire stopped them.” Nepgear read.

“So she was aware of these people, but forgot?” Neptune asked.

“It looks like it.” Nepgear said.

“I see… What about the monsters?” Asked Neptune.

“I’m still looking for information on that.” Said Nepgear.

Neptune and Nepgear walked side-by-side down a long hallway. When they reached the very end, the girls found themselves standing in another hallway that split off from the main one. “Where do we go?” Neptune asked.

Nepgear looked at the hallway on the left and then the right. The hallway on the left had about four closed doors while the hallway on the right only had one large door. “I don’t know. Maybe we should split up?”

“No can do little sister!” Neptune said. “We can’t split up! If we do, who’ll I bug when I get scared?”

Nepgear giggled a little. “Good point.” She said. “Alright, let’s head left first.”

“Sounds good to me!” Neptune said, and with that the girls turned left.

Nepgear’s fingers became a blur as she searched for more and more information about the base. A lot of the information she saw involved supplies for people, materials to build the facility, computer equipment and other things that didn’t really help them find out what the people in the facility were trying to accomplish.

When Neptune and Nepgear reached the first doorway, Neptune opened it and peered inside. The room beyond was enormous. It was filled with empty tables and dozens of other doorways. “This is getting old.” Neptune said, sighing deeply.

“I think this is a cafeteria.” Said Nepgear. “If I had to guess…” Nepgear made her way to one of the closed doors in the room and opened it. Beyond the door was a bed. “Yeah, this must be where the workers here at the facility ate and slept.”

“Do you think we might find anything interesting here? Secret documents? Flash drives? Dirty magazines?” Neptune asked, as she opened a door herself.

A loud growling noise erupted from the room Neptune had just opened. Located inside the room was a large dog. Most of the creatures flesh was missing and large bones were exposed.

“I found someone’s puppy.” Neptune said, giggling nervously.

The dog suddenly lunged at Neptune, but the girl was able to leap out of the way just in time.

The dog landed several yards away from Neptune, who had the tip of her sword aimed at the creature. “Bad doggy! No tummy rubs for you!” Neptune said, narrowing her eyes at the creature.

The dog snarled at Neptune and exposed it’s fangs. Suddenly the creature rushed forwards. Neptune leapt at the creature and swung her sword, however the creature leapt out of the way avoiding Neptune’s strike by mere inches. “This things fast!” Nepgear said. Nepgear had activated her energy sword and was now standing beside her sister.

The dog snarled and snapped its jaws at the girls as it slowly inched forwards. “I have an idea sis.” Nepgear said, in a low voice. “I’ll attack on it’s left side and when it dodges, you strike.”

“Got it.” Neptune said, a determined smile appeared on her face.

Nepgear took a deep breath before she launched herself at the dog and swung her energy sword. Nepgear watched in amazement as the dog leapt over her blade to avoid the first strike, but couldn’t react as Neptune suddenly appeared in front of it and slashed the creature cleanly in two.

With a bright flash the monster vanished before its two halves could hit the ground. “Got it!” Neptune said, as she started humming a catching victory tune.

“Probably too early to celebrate. I doubt that’s the only monster in here.” Said Nepgear.

“Well duh little sister! I’m sure there are all kinds of zombie type monsters here. As long as we stick together we’ll be fine!” Neptune said.

“True.” Nepgear said. The girl was starting to gain some confidence now thanks to her sister. “Should we explore the rest of the rooms, or should we leave?”

“Let’s leave.” Said Neptune. “I’m sure we’ll avoid a lot of unnecessary fights if we do that.”

“That’s true.” Nepgear said. “I think once I figure a few more things out, we should leave this facility and head back to Histoire.”

“What’s next on the docket?” Neptune asked.

“I want to find out about that liquid and HachimaJin.” Said Nepgear. “Even though this facility was studying all kinds of monsters, it was HachimaJin that took up most of their attention.”

“Really?” Neptune said, furrowing her brow. “How do you know?”

“Well…” Nepgear began, as she brought her N-Gear over to Neptune. “I just found some information on that dog, but look how they named it.”

“HachimaJin Number 3?” Neptune read the information. “That’s weird. There’s more than one HachimaJin?”

“I don’t know. It’s weird how they’re naming these monsters. I mean look at this.” Nepgear said, finding another piece of information.

“HachimaJin Number 2?” Neptune read. Nepgear scrolled down on her N-Gear’s screen until a picture appeared. “Wait! That’s a DQN Zombie! These scientists are such goofers!” Neptune said, giggling.

“I don’t think it was a goof though.” Nepgear said, shaking her head.

Neptune could tell something was bothering Nepgear. “What’s going on little sis?”

“Neptune… How did we know what those monsters were called?” Asked Nepgear. “We never fought DQN zombies before. We’ve never even seen them until just now, but for some reason we knew what they were called! It doesn’t make any sense.”

“Well… Uh…” Neptune began, but she was drawing a blank as well. “Now that you mention it, I don’t remember.”

“Exactly. This whole thing doesn’t make any sense.” Nepgear said, her shoulders sagged.

“Maybe were thinking too much about this. Maybe we should head to the surface now?” Neptune said.

Nepgear shook her head. “I’m alright sis. Let’s just keep going for a little while longer. If we don’t find anything then we can leave.”

“Alright, but you better tell me if you start feeling weird or anything.” Neptune said. “If you don’t, I’ll have to give you a scolding!” The girl warned.

Nepgear nodded. “Thanks sis.” She said.

Nepgear and Neptune headed out of the cafeteria and back into the hallway. Making their way to another door they opened it and peered inside. The room beyond looked like a gymnasium.

“I don’t have to guess what this room was used for.” Nepgear said, closing the door.

The next door led to a locker room and shower and finally a storage facility. The storage facility was enormous and filled with crates, barrels and other containers. “I wonder if there’s pudding or…” Neptune began, but a look from Nepgear told her to drop the subject. “Uh never mind…”

“I don’t think we should bother with this room.” Said Nepgear, closing the door and turning towards the large doorway located at the other end of the hallway.

The two girls made their way towards that doorway and pulled it open. The girls gasped. Located on the other side of the door was an enormous circular device that hovered several feet above the ground. The device had dozens of cords connected to it and a giant monitor located directly behind it.

“This is incredible!” Nepgear said, touching her chest. “But…”

“Yeah.” Neptune said, breathing hard. “I feel kind of weird too. What is that?”

Nepgear closed her eyes and thought for a moment. “I don’t know. I feel this way sometimes when I’m fighting a monster, but there’s nothing in here, right?”

Neptune glanced around the room, but the only living things inside were themselves. “I don’t see anything.” Said Neptune, shrugging her shoulders. “So what is that giant thing anyways?”

Nepgear looked through her information. “I… Whoa…” Nepgear breathed. “This is some kind of portal device.”

“Portal device?” Neptune said, her shoulders sagged. “Portal device to where?”

Nepgear tried to find information on that, but nothing came up. “I don’t know, but this device is a portal generator. It creates a portal in its center. According to this data, HachimaJin came out of the portal.”

“Cool, cool.” Neptune said.

“According to this information. HachimaJin appeared and basically attacked the researchers. The creature was weak and they were able to contain it using energy barriers. However, the creature summoned monsters from its body.” Nepgear read.

“Neato!” Neptune said. “If I had to hypothesize, those creatures were the DQN zombies and doggies, right?”

“Yeah, but there are other creatures we haven’t seen yet.” Nepgear said. “A lizard monster and even dogoos.” Nepgear said.

“Dogoos, huh? We can’t get away from those things can we?” Neptune asked. The girl almost sounded bored.

“Oh! And according to this data, the portal generator had a habit of overheating and they would have to flood it using the water tanks above.” Nepgear said, pressing an onscreen prompt on her N-Gear. After Nepgear pressed the button, a large panel in a nearby wall opened and a small room appeared. The room was located nearly ten feet overhead and a metal ladder led up to it.

“Whoa! Did you do that Nepgear?” Neptune asked.

“Yes. I also hacked into this facilities systems and can control certain parts of it.” Said Nepgear.

“That’s it!” Neptune said, strolling over to her sister and placing a hand on Nepgear’s head. “You earned another head pat! I’m so proud of you!”

Nepgear blushed heavily and giggled. “Thanks Neptune!” She said. “We should probably leave now.”

“Alright, but watch out Nepgear! I might just have to give your head another pat!” Neptune said.

Nepgear giggled once more. “You don’t have to spoil me so much.” She said, though she secretly hoped that her sister would keep spoiling her like that.

The two girls headed out of the room, but stopped in their tracks. All the color drained from their cheeks. “Oh goodness!” Nepgear cried.
