Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 70

Two days had passed since the girls had met Marvy and said their goodbyes to Broccoli, who chose to stay behind and sleep under Marvy’s kotatsu. As the girls walked they didn’t run into any other problems. They did battle a few monsters that got in their way, but besides that they didn’t really have any problems.

When the girls finally reached the third Fairy Tower, Neptune inserted the flash memory stick into the USB port and watched as the Fairy Tower came to life. “Congratulations. You activated another Fairy Tower.” Said Histoire, smiling warmly at Neptune. “You only have three more left.”

“Great!” Neptune said, as she looked past the Fairy Tower at the large city in the distance. “So that’s Leanbox, huh?” She asked.

“That is correct.” Said Histoire.

“Any updates on Yvoire?” Nepgear asked.

Histoire closed her eyes and shook her head. “Unfortunately no. The authorities did reach the village called New Leanbox, but they said that Yvoire had fled before they arrived.”

“I see…” Nepgear said, before she forced a smile. “Thanks for letting us know Histoire.”

“Of course.” Said Histoire, bowing to Nepgear. Histoire sat up and looked into the eyes of each of the girls. That’s when she noticed that Broccoli was missing. “Hello MarvelousAQL. It’s been a while since I’ve spoken with you. Or do you still prefer being called Marvy?”

“Hello Histoire.” Marvy said. “You can call me Marvy of course. Funny how the only memory I have of you are new ones that still seem hazy.”

“Yes. I understand.” Histoire said, giggling. “You’re a very diligent girl. I have no doubt you’ll be of great help to Neptune and the others.”

“Thanks.” Marvy said.

After that Histoire turned her eyes to Nepgear. “Now then. I’ll go ahead and send you the location of the next Fairy Tower.”

Nepgear pulled out her N-Gear and looked down at the information. “It looks like the next tower is on another mountain.”

Vert made her way over to Nepgear and glanced down at the information on the screen. “I see. Looks like were headed to Ms Mountain next.”

Histoire noticed Neptune’s eyes closed partially and her shoulders sagged, but she quickly forced a smile. “So were back to mountain climbing, huh? As long as we don’t run into any polar bears wearing shades or kids with mallets, then I don’t mind.” Said Neptune, stretching her hands over her head.

“Actually.” Histoire said, her voice caught everyone’s attention. “I would like to suggest that you take a few days off from your quest and visit Leanbox.”

“Really? Yeah!” Neptune cheered.

“Are you sure Histoire?” Nepgear asked. “We really should hurry up and activate the rest of the Fairy Towers.” Even though Nepgear was pushing back against Histoire’s offer, she was actually relieved. “Now I’ll have a chance to break into Leanbox’s Basilicom and search for the original Histoire!” Thought Vert.

“I agree that the Fairy Towers are important, but so is resting. Please. Go to Leanbox and rest.” Histoire insisted.

Vert took a deep breath. “That actually sounds nice to me. I personally wouldn’t mind taking my lovely Nepgear on a date!”

“D-Date?” Nepgear stammered, her cheeks grew bright red and her eyes went wide.

“Don’t worry.” Vert said, giggling. “It’s normal for two sisters to go on dates!”

“In that case…” Neptune said, as she took Nepgear by the hand. “Let’s go on a date Nepgear!” And with that, Neptune pulled Nepgear behind her as she ran towards Leanbox as fast as she could.

“Wait up!” Vert cried, as she started running after Neptune and Nepgear.

“Wait for me!” Marvy said, as she started chasing after the girls as well.

Nepgear wore a concerned look on her face. Not because of what Vert and Neptune had said, but because of another matter altogether. “Tonight I have to break into Leanbox’s Basilicom.”

***

When the four girls finally reached Leanbox, the first thing they did was find a hotel for them to stay in for the night. “We need two rooms please.” Vert said, to the woman behind the counter. “One for Neptune and Marvy and one for me and Nepgear.”

“Hey. If anyone’s sharing a room with Nepgear, it’s going to be me!” Neptune said, annoyed.

“Why don’t we leave it up to Nepgear?” Vert asked, turning her eyes to Nepgear. “Nepgear? Who would you like to stay with? Neptune? Or me?”

“How about Marvy?” Nepgear offered.

“No!” Vert cried.

Neptune giggled. “Ha! Ha! She doesn’t want to stay with you, she doesn’t want to stay with you!” Neptune said, in a sing-song like voice.

“She doesn’t want to stay with you either.” Vert said.

Neptune stopped singing immediately. “Hey, yeah! What’s up with that man?”

Nepgear held up her hands and giggled nervously. “Just kidding.” Nepgear said, before she lowered her hands. “I’d like to stay with Neptune. I’m actually pretty tired so could we hurry and get a room?”

Vert nodded. “Sorry about that.” She said, turning back to the lady behind the counter. “Two rooms please.”

After Vert paid for the two rooms, she handed one of them to Neptune. “I’ll stay with Marvy tonight. Okay?” She said.

“Sounds good to me.” Neptune said, eyeing Vert suspiciously. “Come on Nepgear. Let’s find our room.”

Nepgear followed Neptune down a long hallway. Neptune looked at each door until she found a number on a door that matched the key she held. After sliding the key into the lock, Neptune opened the door and the two girls stepped inside. “Here we are!” Neptune said.

The room was fairly small. Two beds were located on the left side of the room and a television was located on the right. Near the door of the hotel was a bathroom. “It’s small.” Neptune said.

“Yeah, but that’s alright.” Nepgear said, as she pulled off her backpack and sat it on the floor. After that Nepgear slid her shoes off her feet and laid down on a bed. “This is my bed.”

Neptune didn’t say anything as she pulled off her backpack. After that she plopped herself down on the bed next to Nepgear. “This is my bed too.” Neptune said.

Nepgear giggled. “Aw Neptune. Are you really that worried about Vert?”

Neptune shook her head. “Nah.”

“Don’t worry.” Nepgear said, snuggling up to her sister. “You’re still my favorite and only big sister.”

Neptune blushed. “Thanks.” Neptune said. “And you’re still my favorite and only baby sister.”

The two girls laid beside one another for several moments, but when they heard the sound of someone knocking on their door, they opened their eyes. “I’ll get it. You rest.” Neptune said, sitting up.

Neptune walked to the door and opened it. She wasn’t surprised to see Vert and Marvy standing on the other side. “You want to explore the city?” Asked Vert.

“Sure, but I think Nepgear’s down for a while.” Said Neptune.

“I’m getting up.” Nepgear said, as she rolled off the bed and made her way to the front door.

“Are you sure?” Neptune asked.

“Yeah.” Said Nepgear. “I just wanted to lay down for a second. I’ll be okay.”

“That’s fine.” Vert began, before pointing down at Nepgear’s feet. “You might want to put some shoes on first.”

***

A few moments later Nepgear, Neptune, Vert and Marvy walked up and down the streets of Leanbox taking in all the sites. “Every time I come to this city, I just feel at home.” Said Vert.

“Why haven’t you moved here yet?” Asked Neptune.

“I’m not sure. It’s not like I hate the home I’m living in. I just haven’t thought about moving I guess.” Vert admitted. Vert turned her attention to Nepgear, who looked like she was trying to find something.

“Are you alright, dear?” Asked Vert.

Nepgear quickly turned to Vert and smiled. “Yeah. I was just wondering where the Basilicom was. I was hoping we might be able to see lady Green Heart.” Said Nepgear, as she began scanning the buildings on Vert’s side.

“The Basilicom is right there.” Vert said. Nepgear followed with her eyes to the place that Vert was pointing towards. There she saw a large square building that was green and white in color. “It’s an impressive looking building, yes?”

“Yeah.” Nepgear said. “I wonder how I’m going to get into the Basilicom.” Thought Nepgear. Nepgear wanted to suggest getting closer, but decided not to say anything. “Everyone might get suspicious if reports come out tomorrow about an intruder.” Nepgear thought.

“Would you like to get closer?” Asked Vert.

“That’s okay. I doubt we’d be able to see lady Green Heart.” Nepgear said, surprised that she didn’t scream first. “Did I look like I wanted to get closer? Goodness, I better be careful!” Nepgear thought.

“If you’re sure.” Said Vert.

“Look!” Neptune said, stopping in her tracks.

Everyone turned to look at what Neptune was pointing at. “An arcade?” Said Marvy.

“Yes! I want to get closer to that!” Neptune said, taking Nepgear by the hand. “Come on Nepgear! Lady Green Heart might be in there!”

“I doubt it big sister.” Nepgear said, as Neptune led her into the building. Vert and Marvy followed close behind.

“I almost forgot that you played video games Neptune.” Vert said, a mischievous smile appeared on her face. “Though playing and living them are two different things.”

Neptune turned and narrowed her eyes at Vert. “Are you challenging me Vert?”

“Oh yes.” Vert said, pointing towards a nearby arcade cabinet. “I challenge you to a fighting game. If I win, Nepgear belongs to me.”

“And if I win?” Neptune asked, crossing her arms in front of her chest.

“Then I’ll adopt Nepgear.” Said Vert.

Nepgear giggled, but her smile vanished when Neptune began scratching her chin. “Wait big sister. Win or lose, I would belong to Vert.” She said.

“It’s a deal!” Neptune said, extending a hand to Vert. Vert happily took it.

“BIG SISTER!” Nepgear cried, but Neptune ignored her as she and Vert stepped up to the game cabinet. Nepgear puffed out her cheeks in anger and crossed her arms in front of her chest.

“It’s okay Nepgear.” Marvy said, patting Nepgear on the shoulder. “Let’s have some fun! I challenge you to a fighting game as well! If I win, then I‘m the queen of the arcade. If you win you’re the queen.”

Nepgear turned to Marvy. “Thanks Marvy!” Nepgear said, smiling before suddenly going serious. “I accept your challenge and I will not lose!” And with those words, Nepgear and Marvy found an fighting arcade cabinet and began playing.

Several hours later the girls headed out of the arcade. “Bad news Nepgear…” Neptune began.

“Don’t tell me.” Said Nepgear, pretending to be angry.

“Did you two enjoy yourselves?” Vert asked, looking at Marvy and Nepgear.

“Yep!” Said Marvy.

“Marvy is no longer just a ninja. She’s also the queen of the arcade.” Nepgear said, bowing to Marvy.

“Thank you loyal subjects!” Marvy said, placing her hands high on her hips.

Nepgear glanced around the area. “It’s already dark. Should we get something to eat before we head back to the hotel?” Nepgear asked.

“Sounds good to me. I’m so hungry I could eat a Horsebird! A big one!” Neptune said, patting her stomach.

“That sounds good.” Said Vert. “I actually know a place.”

“Let’s do it!” Neptune said.

***

By the time the  girls made it back to the hotel, the streets of Leanbox were nearly empty. Shops were closing down and the city seemed to slow down quite a bit. Neptune and Nepgear made their way back to their rooms after saying goodnight to Vert and Marvy. “That was fun, but now my belly and mind are full.” Neptune said, as she plopped down on a bed. “Are you going to watch TV?” Neptune asked.

“No.” Said Nepgear as she grabbed her backpack. “I wanted to update my N-Gear. So I’m going to stay awake a bit longer.”

“Oooh. What kind of update?” Neptune asked.

“Nothing special. Just updating virus protection and OS.” Said Nepgear.

“Sounds fun…” Neptune said, her eyes started to close. “I’m going to lay down. Give me a holler if you need anything.” And with those words, Neptune kicked off her shoes before climbing underneath her blankets. Moments later she fell into a deep sleep.

“Good night Neptune.” Nepgear whispered, before she pulled out her other N-Gear and grappling devices. “I’ll be back soon.”

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 69

The following morning Neptune, Nepgear, Vert and Broccoli headed down Halo Mountain. Unlike the previous day, the sun wasn’t shining. Instead it was hiding behind dark clouds. “I think we might have a storm on our hands.” Vert said, looking up at the sky with uncertainty.

“It doesn’t look good.” Nepgear admitted. “I hope it doesn’t start raining. I really want to get to Leanbox as fast as we can.”

“I know what you mean. I want to see what kinds of games Leanbox has as well.” Said Neptune.

“Well that’s not exactly why, but I’m a little curious too.” Nepgear admitted.

“Leanbox has the best games ever made!” Said Vert, smiling proudly. “I mean of course the other nations make great games as well, but the software and hardware Leanbox makes is the best!”

“Them’s fighting words!” Neptune said, turning on her heels and facing Vert. “Planeptune makes the best hardware and software ever! It’s a fact!” Neptune said, holding up her index finger as she spoke.

“Actually no. Back me up Broccoli.” Said Vert, turning to the small catgirl.

“Nepgear? Big sister needs some help!” Neptune said.

Nepgear and Broccoli exchanged glances before they both sighed deeply and shook their heads. “Please leave us out of it.” The girls said in unison, though Broccoli did add a ‘nyu’ after she finished speaking.

“Betrayal. I didn’t see that coming.” Neptune said.

Neptune turned on her heels once more to face the trail they were following, but stopped when a Wolf monster suddenly appeared in front of her. The creature bared its teeth at the girls and growled angrily at them.

“Great…” Neptune said, as she summoned her katana.

“Think this Wolf monster is from the same pack that attacked us yesterday?” Nepgear asked.

“It wouldn’t surprise me. Wolf monsters are pretty vengeful.” Said Vert. “How many did you kill yesterday?”

“Uh… More than four, but less than ten.” Said Neptune.

Vert sighed. “Well. I’m sure it’s here for revenge then. Go get it Neptune.” Vert said, cheering Neptune on.

“Yeah. I knew it would come down to me.” Neptune said, as she turned her attention back to the Wolf monster. Neptune bent down and leapt at the wolf. In a single slash of her katana, she managed to kill the creature before it had a chance to do anything. In a flash of bright white light, the monster disappeared.

Neptune sighed deeply. “I’m pretty sure there were more than that.” Neptune said.

Suddenly the sounds of two Wolf monsters barking could be heard coming from behind a bend in the trail. The wolves sounded as though they were locked in a fierce fight, but after a few moments the sounds of whimpering could be heard and soon even that stopped.

“What was that?” Nepgear wondered, as she summoned her energy sword.

“No idea. Keep on your toes everyone!” Said Vert, as she summoned her spear. Broccoli leapt off Gema and grabbed the yellow creature in her hands.

“I think Neptune should go and check it out, nyu.” Broccoli blurted out.

“I agree. Neptune. Go get it.” Said Vert.

“Huh? No way!” Neptune cried.

“Go Neptune!” Nepgear cheered.

Neptune turned sadly towards Nepgear. “You too Nepgear? Gee… Fine… I’ll go and check it out, but if I die you all have to avenge me.” And with those words, Neptune began moving forwards. As the girl walked, she kept her eyes and ears open for any sounds of life.

Neptune slowly walked around the bend and saw exactly what was waiting for them. A giant wolf creature stood in front of her. The wolf had red eyes, a maw filled with razor sharp teeth, giant claws on the ends of each of it’s toes and it’s fur was bluish grey in the color.

“Well I found it.” Neptune breathed.

The giant wolf leapt at Neptune and swung the claws on it’s left paw at the girl. Neptune leapt back avoiding the claws by mere inches. Before Neptune could do anything however, the creature leapt forwards several more times and continued to swing it’s claws at her.

“Whoa!” Neptune cried as she leapt back once more. “I’m in trouble!” Neptune said, as she dodged to the right. “Need some help!” Neptune said, as the creature launched another strike. Neptune suddenly swung her sword and managed to block the giant wolf from sinking it’s fangs into her.

Vert suddenly appeared above Neptune. She had the tip of her spear aimed down at the creature. “It’s a Fenrir Wolf!” Vert announced.

“Well now I should be able to beat it.” Neptune said, rolling her eyes.

The Fenrir Wolf continued to bear down on Neptune. Neptune felt herself getting pushed back by the giant creature.

“Come on… I can… Do it!” Neptune cried, but the creature suddenly shook it’s head causing Neptune to get pushed backwards. Vert suddenly struck the Fenrir Wolf in the back, causing the creature to buck, sending Vert flying away from it.

“Vert!” Neptune cried out.

The Fenrir Wolf threw a heavy paw at Neptune, but Nepgear suddenly appeared and blocked the attack. “Sorry I’m late Neptune!” Nepgear said.

“Me too, nyu”! Broccoli said, appearing next to Neptune.

“Aren’t you going to help fight it?” Asked Neptune, looking down at the small catgirl.

“I’m showing moral support, nyu.” Broccoli said.

“Great. Thanks.” Neptune said, dully. Neptune leapt at the Fenrir Wolf and sliced the creature’s face.

The Fenrir Wolf leapt backwards. The creature roared in anger. “Take this!” Vert cried, as she appeared once more and stabbed the creature in the neck. The Fenrir Wolf shook it’s head side-to-side, before it started toppling over. In a flash, the creature had vanished.

“Whew…” Neptune breathed. “That was rough.”

“You were wonderful Nepgear.” Said Vert.

“Thanks! You weren’t bad either Vert.” Said Nepgear, smiling warmly at Vert.

Neptune groaned loudly. “And what about me? The protagonist? Any words of encouragement for me?”

Broccoli was about to say something, when she felt a droplet strike her head. “I think it’s starting to rain, nyu.” Broccoli said.

“Oh great…” Nepgear said, holding out her hand in time to catch a few droplets herself.

“We need to find shelter.” Said Vert.

Broccoli winced in pain and felt a bit dizzy when she felt a memory return to her. “Not to worry, nyu.” Said Broccoli, as she leapt onto Gema. “Broccoli knows a great place for us to rest, nyu.”

Neptune, Nepgear and Vert followed Broccoli as she lead the girls down the mountain trail and soon they were making their way through a small grove of trees. After several moments of walking, the girls were starting to wonder if Broccoli actually knew a place where they could take shelter.

“Broccoli? Are you sure were going in the right direction?” Nepgear asked.

“How rude. Broccoli knows where she’s going.” Broccoli said, feeling a tinge of annoyance.

A few moments later the girls found themselves standing outside a cabin. The cabin wasn’t very big, but it looked like it was well maintained. “Here it is, nyu.” Broccoli said.

“Hold on a minute!” Neptune said, pointing sternly at the cabin. “You knew this place were here, but you didn’t tell us about it?”

“That’s right, nyu.” Said Broccoli. “Broccoli didn’t think you’d want to stop here considering the Fairy Tower was so close and by the time we reached it, it was too dark to come back down the mountain.”

“Well… Yeah.” Neptune said, not wanting to admit that Broccoli made a good point.

“You’ve been here before Broccoli?” Vert asked.

“Yes, nyu.” Said Broccoli. “A friend of mine lives here, nyu.” Broccoli didn’t waste any time as she made her way to the front door of the cabin. She was closely followed by Neptune and the others. “Knock, knock, nyu.” Broccoli said, knocking on the front door of the cabin.

“Is that Broccoli?” Came a voice. The cabin door opened and a cute girl appeared. The girl was garbed in a white outfit and she carried two katana on her left hip. “Oh!” The girl said, surprised to see more than just one catgirl on the other side of her door. “Hi Broccoli!”

“Hello, nyu.” Broccoli said, holding up her right hand as she spoke. “Broccoli is here with friends, nyu. Please let us take advantage of your roof, nyu.”

“Of course. Come on in!” The girl said, standing aside so everyone could enter.

Once the girls were inside, Neptune could see what the inside of the cabin looked like. The cabin was wide open. A small kotatsu was located in the middle of the room. A small kitchen was located towards the back and several tatami mats were on the floor.

“Everyone. This is MarvelousAQL, nyu.” Broccoli said.

“Nice to meet you.” MarvelousAQL said, bowing to the girls. “Please. Call me Marvy.”

“Howdy Marvy! My names Neptune!” Neptune said, saluting. Neptune pointed towards each girl and introduced them. “Thanks for letting us in. I wasn’t sure what we were going to do if it really started raining.” Just as the words left Neptune’s mouth, rain started pouring down, striking the roof and windows of the cabin.

“Nice timing.” Said Marvy. “Anyways, let me fix everyone some tea.”

“Oh please. We don’t want to put you out anymore than we already are.” Nepgear said, holding up her hands.

“No trouble at all. I was going to make myself some tea anyways.” Said Marvy. “Call it an old ninja’s intuition, but I had a feeling that today was a stay inside kind of day.”

“You’re a ninjer Marvy? That’s awesome!” Neptune said, giggling. “I bet you could teach me a few things when it comes to a sword.”

“Maybe.” Marvy said, as she headed towards the kitchen to fix some tea. “Please make yourselves at home. I have the kotatsu out all year long. It’s not really chilly, but I still like it.”

“Nice.” Said Neptune, as she took a seat at the kotatsu. “Nepgear always makes me put the kotatsu away, even before it get’s warm.” Said Neptune.

With those words Neptune and Nepgear suddenly felt a pain between their eyebrows and the girls felt dizzy as well. “Oh man… Big sister…” Nepgear said, closing her eyes tightly.

“Yeah. Sorry.” Neptune said, wincing in pain.

“Are you two okay? Did you remember something?” Asked Vert.

“Yeah. It was a nice and painful memory.” Neptune said, after the pain had disappeared. Neptune suddenly leaned back against the floor and spread her arms out.

Nepgear took a seat at the kotatsu and soon were joined by Vert and Broccoli. “Broccoli loves the kotatsu.” The catgirl said. Instead of sitting at the kotatsu, Broccoli laid down on the pillow and pulled the blanket over her. Soon Broccoli had fallen fast asleep.

“Broccoli is so adorable.” Vert said, eyeing the small catgirl closely.

“Broccoli and I have known each other for a while.” Said Marvy. “The funny thing is, I only just remembered her a little while ago.” Marvy turned holding a kettle and a tray filled with cups. Before taking a seat, Marvy glanced down at Broccoli and smiled. “That’s how I remember her. Sleeping like that.”

After that, Marvy took a seat at the table and began pouring everyone a cup of tea. Once everyone was served, they began drinking the hot liquid while listening to the sound of rain continue to pound against the roof.

“So with that said. I would like to join you four on your adventure.” Marvy said.

“Whoa… hold on.” Neptune said, surprised. “First off do you have any pudding? Secondly, what about video games? Third how did you know were on a journey?”

“To answer your first two questions. Yes.” Marvy said, nodding. “As for your third question. It’s because of the Fairy Tower. I saw that it wasn’t operational a few months ago. So I figured you came by to activate it. Correct?”

“You are beyond keen lady.” Neptune said.

“You’re right.” Said Nepgear. “I’m really impressed with you Marvy.” Said Nepgear.

“Thanks, but I’m not all that impressive. I was honestly just guessing there a second ago.” Marvy admitted.

“Still. You are correct. Do you know what happened to the Fairy Towers?” Asked Vert.

Marvy shook her head. “No, but I have a feeling I used to use it quite often. I mean, why else would I build a cabin all the way out here? No doubt I was doing a lot of ninja training out here.”

Neptune crossed her arms in front of her chest and nodded several times. “Yes. I agree.”

“Don’t act like you were thinking the same thing, Neptune.” Nepgear said.

“Yeah. You got me.” Said Neptune, rubbing the back of her head and giggling. “But real talk Marvy. Where’s that pudding? Where’s the video games and our journey is pretty dangerous.”

“She’s right.” Nepgear said. “We actually just fought a Fenrir Wolf and my sister was recently poisoned by a cult leader! And that’s just what happened on Leanbox. Lastation and Planeptune had other close calls as well.”

Marvy closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “That’s alright.” She began, slowly opening her eyes. “I’m a ninja. Living the life of a ninja isn’t easy either, but I won’t shy away from it either. I’ve faced many hardships while training both my mind and body. Please. Let me join you and show you what I can do.”

“Wow.” Neptune said, smiling warmly at Marvy. “All I can say is. Where’s that pudding I asked for? And those video games?”

Marvy burst into laughter as she got to her feet. “Alright Neptune!” The girl said, as she turned towards a small refrigerator.

“I’m sorry about my sister.” Nepgear said, blushing heavily.

“No. It’s okay.” Marvy said. “I can tell it’s going to be fun traveling with you.”

“Well… I certainly don’t mind you joining us.” Said Vert.

“Me neither.” Said Nepgear.

“Well I don’t know, I’m starting to doubt-” Neptune began, but the moment she saw Marvy pull out a pudding she quickly changed her tune. “-that we’d have anything to worry about if Marvy joined us!”

“Thanks!” Marvy said, as she handed the pudding over to Neptune. “I’m honored to join your party!”

A few hours later the rain finally stopped. It still looked stormy outside, but the girls decided to start back out on their journey. Nepgear stepped outside and looked up at the clouds. She wondered how long it would be until it started raining once more. “I hope we can get to some shelter before it starts raining again.”

“Are you sure you want to leave right now Marvy?” Asked Neptune.

“I’m sure.” Marvy said, smiling brightly.

“I’m staying, nyu.” Said Broccoli, who was still lying underneath the kotatsu.

“Huh?” Everyone, except Marvy, said.

“Broccoli wants to enjoy the kotatsu more, nyu.” Broccoli said, nuzzling up to her pillow.

“I don’t think Marvy’s going to like that.” Nepgear said.

“Oh, I don’t mind. Broccoli? You make yourself at home. I promise I’ll keep an eye out for everyone.” Said Marvy.

“Thanks, nyu.” Broccoli said, before falling asleep.

Neptune, Nepgear and Vert didn’t say anything. All they could do was watch Broccoli sleep peacefully underneath the kotatsu. “Funny. I’m not really surprised by this.” Nepgear said.

“Broccoli’s more irresponsible than me!” Neptune announced.

“Not even close.” Broccoli, Vert and Nepgear all chimed in. Broccoli soon fell asleep once more.

“Curses!” Neptune cried. “Well… Thanks for everything Broccoli?” Neptune said, smiling brightly. “We’ll see you later!” And with those words, the three girls said their farewells to Broccoli before continuing their journey while Marvy just started her journey with them.

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 68

Nepgear tried to push the events of New Leanbox out of her mind, but Yvoire’s face kept appearing in her mind. The way the man tried to justify trying to take someone’s life annoyed her to no end.

Neptune on the other hand didn’t seem to care anymore. She giggled and laughed with everyone. Teased Broccoli by calling her Puchiko. The only time she seemed to get annoyed was when Vert claimed Nepgear as her little sister. “She’s my little sister! Mine!” Neptune would say.

Nepgear giggled as her sister’s shoulders sagged and she started dragging her feet across the ground. “I need rest! Can we stop for the night?” Neptune asked.

“Sure. We’ve been traveling for quite a while.” Said Vert, scratching her chin thoughtfully. The moment Vert said ‘sure’, Neptune plopped herself down on the ground. After that she took her backpack off and placed it in front of her. After that she rested her legs on the backpack and closed her eyes. “Nepgear?”

“Yes?” Nepgear said, turning to Vert.

“Do you mind collecting some firewood with me? Neptune can watch over our stuff.” Vert asked.

“Sure. I don’t mind.” Nepgear said, as she also took off her backpack and placed it close to her sister. Neptune didn’t even open her eyes. “I don’t think my sister’s going to be watching out for our stuff.” Nepgear said, in a small voice.

“Don’t worry, nyu.” Broccoli said. “Broccoli will keep an eye on everything.”

“I’m watching, I’m watching.” Neptune said, waving her hand in the air. “You guys go ahead and do what you need to do. Oh and Vert?”

“Yes?” Vert said.

“Nepgear’s my sister! No eloping!” Neptune said.

“Very well.” Vert said, sadly.

Nepgear giggled as she and Vert headed off to gather firewood. “What’s so funny?” Vert asked.

“I just… I can’t get over what Yvoire did, but Neptune’s making it hard to hold a grudge. I still hate Yvoire for what he did to her, but I feel silly being angry when she’s so full of life.” Nepgear said.

“Yes. I admit it’s hard to be serious around your sister.” Said Vert. “Still. I feel like I have some blame in what happened to your sister. I felt suspicious of Yvoire and the village the entire time, but I didn’t think of really communicating this with Neptune.”

“It’s not your fault. I doubt anyone thought Yvoire would try to poison her.” Said Nepgear. “In fact. You could have easily ended up getting poisoned yourself.”

“That’s true.” Vert said. “If Yvoire was willing to kill one of us, he could have easily tried both.”

“Exactly.” Said Nepgear. “Still… It’s over now. I just hope the people of New Leanbox get the message and kick Yvoire out.”

“Same.” Said Vert, nodding.

It took Nepgear and Vert several minutes, but soon they each carried an armful of firewood in their arms. By the time they got back Neptune was sound asleep and Broccoli was still watching out for monsters on top of Gema.

“You’re back, nyu.” Broccoli said, before narrowing her eyes at Neptune. “Neptune is dead to the world, nyu.”

“I’m sure my sister could sleep through anything.” Nepgear observed. “But in this case I don’t really blame her.”

“Yes. She’s been through a lot.” Said Vert. “Now. Let me take care of the rest.” Vert took the firewood and quickly built a fire. After that, she began to cook a curry for everyone. By the time dinner was done, Neptune had woken up and was eagerly awaiting her food.

“Thanks Vert!” Neptune said, taking a plate of curry.

“You’re very welcome.” Said Vert. “And in exchange…”

“No.” Neptune said, noticing Vert was eyeing Nepgear.

“Oh poo…” Vert said, sadly.

Nepgear couldn’t help, but giggle. “Do you like me that much Vert?”

“Of course I do!” Vert said. “I’ve always wanted a little sister. Someone to spend time with, someone to spoil, someone to play video games with. It would be the best!”

“I agree. Nepgear is the best little sister that BELONGS to ME.” Neptune said, putting emphasis on the word ‘belongs’ and ‘me’.

“I disagree. Nepgear is her own woman.” Said Vert, matter-of-factly.

“Well yeah, but she’s my little sister! MINE!” Neptune said, pointing her spoon sternly at Vert.

“Neptune? Does it bother you that Yvoire poisoned you?” Nepgear suddenly blurted out.

Vert’s smile vanished and Broccoli awkwardly turned away as she continued to eat her curry. Nepgear looked as though she were either on the verge of tears or screaming in anger.

“Of course it bothers me, but we dealt with Yvoire. Didn’t we?” Neptune asked. “I mean yeah, I wanted to give him a Nep slap upside his head, but what would that solve? I was poisoned, Vert got me the cure and now I’m here enjoying a plate of curry with my favorite baby sister. I’m fine!”

Nepgear wanted to argue, but she knew her sister was right. “I’m sorry Neptune. I didn’t…”

“It’s okay.” Neptune said, moving closer to Nepgear and resting her head on her sisters shoulder. “Thanks for worrying about me, but I don’t want you to be sad. You should cheer up and give me a Nepgear smile! You’re way cuter with one of those!”

A smile appeared on Nepgear’s face. “Thanks Neptune.” Nepgear said.

Vert looked from Neptune to Nepgear. “See? This is why  want a little sister of my own!”

“Yeah. They sure are great!” Neptune said.

“How annoying, nyu.” Broccoli muttered.

The following morning Neptune, Nepgear, Vert and Broccoli continued their journey to Halo Mountain. It took them most of the day, but the girls finally reached their destination.

Halo Mountain was a huge mountain that had large bridges that connected it’s many different sides.

Neptune raced across one of the bridges, before turning to Vert, Nepgear and Broccoli. “Ha! I win!” Neptune said, as she held up her arms in victory.

“I didn’t know we were racing.” Said Vert.

“I didn’t tell anyone.” Said Neptune. “Anyways Nepgear. Where’s that Fairy Tower?”

Nepgear had been looking down at her N-Gear, guiding the girls as they moved through Halo Tower. “We should be seeing it pretty soon. Follow me.” Nepgear said, as she turned right and started leading the girls down a rocky trail.

Neptune, Vert and Broccoli followed close behind Nepgear. After several long moments of walking, the girls finally found themselves standing in front of the Fairy Tower. “Here we are.” Vert said, happily.

“Yep! Let me just…” Neptune began, as she fished out the USB memory stick from her pocket. After that, she made her way over to the Fairy Tower and inserted the device. Moments later Histoire appeared.

“Welcome!” Histoire said. “Congratulations on making it here.”

“Thanks!” Neptune said.

“Two down four more to go.” Said Vert. “This journey has been pretty hectic so far Histoire. You wouldn’t believe it.”

“Tell me.” Histoire said.

Nepgear stepped forwards and told Histoire everything that had happened to them since they arrived to Leanbox. Histoire wore a horrified look on her face by the time they wrapped up their story. “That’s horrible.” Histoire said, closing her eyes and sighing deeply.

“I also heard that lady Green Heart disappeared.” Said Vert. “Is that true?”

Histoire shook her head. “No. Lady Green Heart is still in Leanbox, but she’s not making a lot of public appearances for some reason.” Histoire explained. Histoire shook her head. “Back to this Yvoire though. I shall call the authorities and have this man arrested!” Histoire said, as she closed her eyes.

Nepgear’s eyes went wide. “Wait… You can do that?”

“Of course. It’s a simple feature that was built into the Fairy Towers.” Said Histoire.

Nepgear blinked her eyes several times. “That does make sense. It actually wouldn’t make sense if you couldn’t communicate with the authorities.”

Several moments later Histoire opened her eyes. “There. I told the authorities what happened.” Said Histoire. “I’ll keep in contact with them to make sure they pick this individual up.”

“Thank you.” Nepgear said, surprised.

“Of course. Individuals such as that are a danger.” Said Histoire.

“So…” Neptune began. “What should we do next?”

“Oh yes! I shall send the coordinates to the next Fairy Tower.” Said Histoire.

Nepgear lifted up her N-Gear and looked down at the screen. “It looks like the next Fairy Tower is really close to Leanbox.” Nepgear said.

“Neat! We’ll finally get to see the city.” Said Neptune.

“Yes. Leanbox is a beautiful city. Have you see it before Broccoli?” Asked Vert.

Broccoli nodded. “Yes. Broccoli has seen Leanbox several times before, nyu.” Broccoli said.

“As expected of Puchiko.” Said Neptune.

“Broccoli, nyu.” Broccoli said, sighing deeply.

“So should we start heading to Leanbox now, or should we stay here for the night?” Asked Nepgear, looking up at the sky.

“If I may make a suggestion. I would recommend staying here for the night. It might be sunny now, but the sun will start to set in a few hours which would make the mountain too dangerous to traverse.” Histoire said.

“That sounds like a good idea.” Said Vert. “Why don’t I get camp setup for us.”

“Great!” Neptune said, as she took Nepgear by the hand. “Meanwhile Nepgear and I are going to go on a top secret mission! I call it operation sister time!”

“Huh?” Nepgear said, but before she could ask any questions Neptune began pulling Nepgear away from the Fairy Tower. “Hold on Neptune! Stop pulling me!” The girl called out.

“Are you going to stop them, nyu?” Broccoli asked Vert.

“No. Sister time sounds nice.” Said Vert, as she pulled off her backpack. “Why don’t we get things ready before they come back.”

“Fine, nyu.” Said Broccoli.

***

Neptune kept pulling Nepgear down the long trail for several moments. Nepgear kept asking her sister where they were going and what they were planning on doing, but Neptune didn’t answer.

After several long moments a Wolf monster leapt in front of Neptune. The creature snarled at the two girls and bared it’s fangs at them.

“Uh-oh. A monster!” Said Nepgear.

“So what are we going to do about it Nepgear?” Asked Neptune, letting go of her sisters hand.

Nepgear watched as more Wolf monsters appeared. Some leapt on top of nearby boulders while others crawled out from bushes that poked precariously out of the ground. The creatures slowly encircled the girls. They growled and snapped their maws at them.

Nepgear held out her hand and summoned her energy sword. “Were going to have to beat them!”

“Right!” Neptune said, as she summoned her katana.

The wolves leapt at the girls. Nepgear swung her sword and managed to kill three of them before they could launch a single attack. Neptune ran forwards and swung her sword twice, she managed to kill two of the monsters, but she flipped over the third. The moment Neptune’s feet touched the ground, she sliced her sword killing that creature as well.

After that only three of the Wolf monsters remained. The creatures whined loudly as they turned and scurried away.

“We did it.” Nepgear said, taking a deep breath.

“That’s right little sis!” Neptune said, giving Nepgear a three finger salute.

Nepgear opened her mouth to say something, but changed her mind. Instead she smiled brightly at her sister as her shoulders sagged. “You’re right sis. As long as were together we can overcome anything, huh?”

“Huh?” Neptune said, her eyes shifted to the right. “Well yeah, but my point is that we are awesome!”

Nepgear started to laugh and after a few moments Neptune joined her. “We are awesome big sister.” Nepgear said. “Anyways, we should head back to the Fairy Tower. I’m sure everyone’s waiting for us to come back.”

“Yeah, yeah.” Neptune said, waving her hand dismissively. “You should keep an eye on Vert though. She’s going to make her move someday and try to make off with you. I’ll have to give her a Nep chop when that happens.”

“Don’t worry sis.” Nepgear said, taking Neptune by the hand. “You’ll always be my favorite big sister.”

“Thanks Nep Jr. I… Wait a minute! Favorite because I’m your only big sister, right?” Neptune asked, eyeing Nepgear.

Nepgear shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t’ know. Vert gives nice hugs.” Nepgear ignored the stunned look on Neptune’s face as both sisters headed back to the Fairy Tower where Vert and Broccoli were waiting for them.

Vert looked up from what she was working on and also ignored Neptune’s stunned face. “Welcome back you two!”

Nepgear smiled brightly. “Were back!”

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 67

Nepgear didn’t sleep well that night. Even though she disarmed the security system in the village herself, she could only imagine Yvoire giving the order to have it restored. Trapping them inside the village and attempting to poison them all once more. The door to the Building they stayed in had been replaced.

Neptune and Broccoli shared a bed, while Vert and Nepgear shared the other. Every time Nepgear heard a noise outside, she lifted her head off the pillow and looked at the door. “This is horrible. I can’t sleep. This whole village is driving me crazy.” Nepgear thought, bitterly to herself.

“It’s okay, dear.” Vert said, placing a gentle hand on Nepgear’s face. “I know you’re scared, but everything will be fine. I promise.”

“Thanks Vert.” Nepgear said. Even though Nepgear couldn’t bring herself to call Vert a ‘big sister’, she thought that Vert would make an excellent one. A few moments later, Nepgear was able to drift off to sleep.

Nepgear was startled awake when she heard someone knocking on their door. Jumping to her feet, Nepgear glanced around the room. She saw that everyone was gone. “Hey!” Nepgear cried, as she ran to the door and flung it open. To Nepgear’s shock, Neptune was standing on the other side.

“Morning Nepgear!” Neptune said, giggling. “How’d-” Before Neptune could finish speaking, Nepgear threw her arms around her sister. “Whoa! Easy there Nepgear!” Neptune said, as she threw her arms around Nepgear as well.

“Sorry Neptune. I was just worried.” Nepgear said, breathing a sigh of relief. “Are you okay? Are you feeling better?”

“Yep!” Neptune said, giggling. “You wouldn’t even know that I had been poisoned yesterday!” Neptune glanced suspiciously around the village. “Speaking of which. Don’t eat their pudding. Trust me.” Neptune said, in a whisper.

“Right.” Nepgear said. “Where’s Vert and Broccoli?”

“They’re at the village’s entrance. They made breakfast for us. Also Vert wants us to kill that Big Pirachu or whatever.” Neptune said, sighing deeply. “Seriously. She’s such a goodie goodie.”

“You don’t want to?” Nepgear asked.

“Nah. I don’t mind.” Neptune said, shrugging her shoulders. “I know Yvoire’s the bad guy and not everyone in the village. Still. It’s work Nepgear. Work!”

Nepgear laughed. “I’m glad you’re back to normal Neptune.”

Nepgear followed Neptune to the front of the village where Vert and Broccoli were waiting. “Good morning, nyu!” Broccoli said, waving to Nepgear.

“Good morning.” Said Nepgear, turning her eyes to Vert. “Sorry if I kept you up last night Vert.”

“Oh please! I was in heaven sleeping next to my younger sister!” Vert said. Neptune groaned loudly, but she didn’t say anything. “Anyways my dear. I made us some oatmeal. I know it’s not fancy, but it should fill your belly.” Vert said, holding out a bowl to Nepgear.

Nepgear took the bowl and a spoon before taking a seat next to her sister. Nepgear had to admit that the entire scene seemed unusual. Vert had made a small fire on the ground and had borrowed several chairs for them to sit. As the girls ate, they noticed they were being watched by the villagers of New Leanbox.

“I bet they’re wondering what were going to do next.” Nepgear said, as she poked at her oatmeal. “Considering everything that happened.”

“True.” Neptune said. “I bet the four of us could easily overthrow Yvoire and live in this village as tyrants!” Neptune said, as she waved her spoon around like it was a scepter. “Bring me your best pudding subjects! Hold the poison!”

Vert burst into laughter, while Nepgear groaned. “You’re crazy, nyu.” Broccoli said, before shoveling some oatmeal into her mouth.

Vert stopped laughing when she spotted a familiar face. A face she wasn’t in the mood to see. Yvoire shuffled down the street. His hands were folded together in front of him and he wore a nervous look on his face. “Ladies. How is your morning going for you?” Yvoire asked, once he was in earshot.

“Great.” Neptune said. “Sorry to disappoint you.”

“I’m glad.” Yvoire said. “Like I said the previous day. That poison-”

“Don’t.” Nepgear said, cutting Yvoire off. “You’re lucky were willing to help this village with Big Pirachu, so don’t you dare try to justify what you did or pretend your poison somehow worked the way you said it did.”

“Right…” Yvoire said, his voice trailed.

Vert took a deep breath. “Yvoire. I want to ask you something about Big Pirachu and I expect you to tell me the truth. Understand?”

“Of course.” Yvoire said, nodding.

“Did Big Pirachu appear before or after you built your village?” Asked Vert.

“Before.” Yvoire answered.

“And he’s simply trying to destroy the village, right? He’s not trying to get back something you took from him?” Vert asked.

“No. We didn’t take anything from Big Pirachu.” Yvoire said. “I swear. We just built our village here and Big Pirachu attacked. After that we built the wall and installed our security system. Like I mentioned yesterday, he destroyed most of our tanks.”

“I see…” Vert said.

“Did you figure something out, nyu?” Broccoli asked.

“No. I just wanted to make sure there were no surprises awaiting us.” Said Vert. “Another question Yvoire. Do you really think this monster was created by the other goddesses?”

Yvoire didn’t answer right away. Instead he glanced around to make sure no one was listening. “To be honest…” Yvoire began, in a hushed whisper.

“Can’t hear you Yvoire!” Neptune shouted.

Yvoire swallowed hard. “To be honest…” Yvoire said, in a louder voice. “I made that up. I thought it would help the villagers of New Leanbox to embrace our goddess even more.”

“I thought so.” Vert said. “In that case I believe what were dealing with is a normal monster.”

“Yeah… Too bad for you Yvoire.” Neptune said, smiling mischievously.

“Yes…” Yvoire said, in a low voice. “You said that you were leaving after you deal with this monster. Correct?”

“I don’t remember saying that.” Nepgear said.

Yvoire’s eyes turned to Nepgear before they turned back to Vert. “You did say that though…”

“Calm down Yvoire.” Vert said. “After we finish our breakfast, were going to try to lure Big Pirachu out. If were lucky we’ll have dealt with it. After that we’ll leave.”

“No.” Nepgear said, finally getting to her feet and turning to Yvoire. “No. I want you to tell our people the truth about Big Pirachu. I want you to tell them the truth about the poison you fed to my sister!”

Yvoire’s lower jaw dropped and the color in his cheeks vanished. “Please… I’m sorry about what happened, but you have to listen to reason. Everything I do is for the sake of my people and our goddess.”

“That’s our condition Yvoire.” Vert said. “Either you tell them, or we’ll tell them.”

Yvoire took a jagged breath. “Very well. As soon as Big Pirachu is dealt with, I’ll tell them the truth.”

“Before.” Nepgear said. “As in right now!”

Yvoire nearly fell to his knees, but somehow managed to keep standing. “Fine. I’ll do it right now.” And with those words, Yvoire began calling his villagers over to him. It took nearly twenty minutes, but soon the entire front of the village was filled with people. “My fellow villagers. I have something to tell you.” Yvoire began.

Nepgear, Neptune, Vert and Broccoli watched as Yvoire told the villagers the truth. He told them the truth about the poison and about Big Pirachu. At the very end everyone wore a shocked look on their faces.

“I can’t believe it.” A woman muttered.

“You lied to us!” A man cried out.

“I’m truly sorry.” Yvoire said.

“Yeah right! You’re sorry you got caught!” Someone cried out, over the crowd of murmuring people.

Nepgear turned away from Yvoire and took a seat back at the fire Vert had built. “Thanks for backing me up Vert.”

“Of course. What are big sisters for?” Vert asked.

Neptune opened her mouth to say something, but quickly changed her mind. “She saved your life, she helped your sister, let her have this…” Neptune muttered under her breath.

“Crazy, nyu.” Broccoli said.

When the girls finally finished their breakfast, they headed out of the village. The girls had no idea what was going to happen to Yvoire, but they weren’t going to stick around to find out.

“I wonder how were going to find Big Pirachu.” Neptune wondered, aloud. “I mean it’s a giant rat, but I don’t see it anywhere.”

“I’m not sure to be honest with you. We might have to spread out in order to find it.” Vert said.

“That might not be a good idea.” Said Nepgear. “I didn’t fight the thing yesterday, but it seemed really powerful.”

“I know, nyu. We almost got flattened yesterday, nyu.” Broccoli said.

“Eureka!” Neptune said, as she lifted Broccoli off Gema. “We have a catgirl right here! Rats hate catgirls, right? So go get it girl!” Neptune said, sitting Broccoli gently on the grass.

“No way, nyu.” Broccoli said, as she hopped back onto Gema.

“Well I’m out of ideas.” Said Neptune. Neptune blinked her eyes several times when she noticed a strange look appear on Vert, Nepgear and Broccoli’s faces. “Let me guess. Big Pirachu’s behind me?”

Nepgear, Vert and Broccoli nodded their heads.

Neptune whirled around and saw Big Pirachu marching towards her. “Hey. My plan worked!” Neptune said. “It’s the, take credit for Big Pirachu showing up, plan!” Neptune said, as she held out her hands and summoned her katana. “You girls ready?”

“Ready!” Nepgear said, as she summoned her energy sword.

“Ready, nyu.” Broccoli said.

“I’m ready as well.” Said Vert, summoning her spear.

Neptune led the charge. As she ran at Big Pirachu, a mischievous smile appeared on her face. “Man… after yesterday, I feel alive! I feel like I can do anything!” Neptune thought, as she leapt high into the air and brought her sword down hard.

Neptune’s katana sliced through the air with a silvery flash, cutting Big Pirachu’s face. The giant rodent roared in anger as it through a heavy paw at Neptune. Neptune flipped over the paw, missing it by mere inches.

Big Pirachu tried to follow Neptune with it’s eyes, but before it could launch another attack at the girl, Nepgear had leapt at the creature and sliced into it’s back.

Big Pirachu’s entire body went rigid, as it turned on it’s heels and launched it’s paw at Nepgear, but before it could attack the girl, a giant spear slammed into it’s chest, sending the rodent flying backwards.

CHUU!” Big Pirachu cried, as it slammed into the ground sending dust and debris flying into the air.

“My turn, nyu!” Broccoli said, as she walked over to the downed rodent and slammed Gema lazily into the creature. Big Pirachu’s eyes opened wide, before the creature vanished in a bright flash of light. “I’m a winner, nyu!” Broccoli said, throwing her hands victoriously into the air.

Nepgear smiled brightly, but her smile faltered when she heard cheers coming from the village. Turning on her heels, the girl saw the villagers had gathered outside the village.

“You did it!” Someone shouted.

“Thank you girls” Cheered someone else.

Neptune waved her hands over her head. “You’re welcome everyone!”

Nepgear felt a hand on the small of her back. “Are you okay?” Vert asked, smiling warmly into Nepgear’s eyes.

Nepgear took a deep breath, before she nodded. “I’m alright. I’m still mad about what happened.”

“You have every right to be angry.” Vert said. “But we did a good thing here. I just hope the villagers learn from everything that happened. I wish we could do something more when it comes to Yvoire.”

“Yeah.” Said Nepgear, nodding.

“Don’t worry about it.” Said Neptune, making her way over to the two girls. “I betcha the people of that village will give Yvoire the boot. They don’t need him.”

“That’s true.” Said Nepgear. “Still. Can we leave?”

Vert nodded. “Of course. We still have to activate the rest of those Fairy Towers after all.” After the girls gathered their backpacks, they continued on their journey to the second Fairy Tower. They could only hope that the villagers of New Leanbox stopped listening to Yvoire.

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 66

Vert looked at Yvoire in disbelief. One moment she and Neptune were about to enjoy a nice meal together. The next moment Neptune was lying on the floor, slowly dying thanks to a poison that Yvoire had fed her. “You can’t be serious! Poison like that doesn’t exist!” Vert cried.

“You are incorrect.” Yvoire said. “I have it on good authority that this poison does only effect those who’s hearts and souls are tainted by evil.”

Vert slowly shook her head. “You can’t do this! You have to give her the antidote!” Vert cried, as she scooped Neptune up in her arms and stood.

“Tell me Vert.” Yvoire began, as though trying to find the right words. “Your friend here. She’s not from Leanbox is she?”

Vert didn’t answer. Instead she looked down at the face of Neptune. Who’s condition seemed to be getting worse. “It doesn’t matter what she’s from. She doesn’t deserve to die like this!”

“As I thought.” Yvoire said. “You on the other hand were born in Leanbox. Correct?” Vert refused to answer. “I have a feeling that if you didn’t meet Neptune or her sister, you wouldn’t have lied to us before. As you can see, your heart and soul almost became tainted thanks to this horrible woman. I’m proud to say that I have saved you.”

“You haven’t saved anyone! You’re killing an innocent girl!” Vert screamed. After that, Vert felt several firm hands on her shoulders.

“I had a feeling you might not understand. Perhaps you need some time to yourself.” Yvoire said. “Please escort these two to their room and lock them in for the night. I’m sure by tomorrow, Vert will see reason.” Yvoire said, he was no longer talking to Vert anymore.

“Yes sir.” Said a voice.

“Right away.” Said another voice.

“No! You can’t!” Vert cried. Vert wanted to fight back, but was worried that she might injure Neptune while holding her.

Dozens of people watched as Vert was escorted out of the building. She looked pleadingly into their eyes, hoping someone would help, but most of them looked away. “This is crazy. How did this happen? Why?” Vert wondered, bitterly to herself.

Vert and Neptune was escorted to the room she had been assigned before. Vert hesitated going inside, but knew she didn’t have a choice. After stepping into the room the door was shut and bolted locked.

Vert made her way over to a bed and gently laid Neptune down. “N-Nepgear… Cold… Please…” Neptune breathed.

Vert sighed deeply. Her shoulders sagged as she pulled a warm blanket over Neptune. “I’m so sorry Neptune. I don’t know what to do.” Vert said, in a low voice. After that, Vert took a seat on the edge of the other bed in the room and looked hopelessly at Neptune. “What do I do? What will I tell Nepgear tomorrow? I let her sister die? I didn’t do anything to save her?”

Vert closed her eyes as warm tears formed in the corners of her eyes. “No!” Vert said, in a stern voice. “I won’t let that happen!”

Vert got to her feet and turned towards her door. Moving swiftly over to it, Vert began pounding on the frame. “Let me out now!” The girl ordered.

“Were sorry.” Said a muffled voice. “We don’t like it either, but we don’t have a choice. Yvoire’s orders are absolute.”

“And who gave him that power?” Vert demanded.

“The goddess of course.” Said one of the people.

“No.” Vert said, sternly. “Does that sound like something a goddess would do?” The voice didn’t answer. “I don’t know lady Green Heart personally, but I know she wouldn’t give that kind of power to anyone! Not even herself!”

“I’m sorry.” Said the voice.

“Let me out!” Vert ordered once more.

“I can’t.” Said the voice.

“Stop talking to her. She’ll get the point sooner or later.” Said a different voice.

“You’re about to get the point!” Vert snapped. Vert leapt away from the door. As she did she summoned her spear. “Here I come!” Vert sliced through the door with a series of slashes. In an instant the door had been destroyed.

Located on the other side of the door were two men. “We better get Yvoire!” One of the men screamed.

“Right!” And with those words, the two men turned and started running away as fast as they could.

“Yes! Get my Yvoire and an antidote! NOW!” Vert roared.

Vert stepped out of the building she and Neptune were being held in. The moment her feet touched the ground outside, several Hi Bit robots appeared around her. Before the creatures could launch an attack, Vert managed to destroy them all with little effort.

The moment the small robots were destroyed, a large tank suddenly appeared on the other side of the village. “Yvoire! Shut this down! NOW!” Vert roared.

In response the tank aimed it’s cannons at the girl and fired. Vert sighed as she held up her hand and created a barrier in front of her. The tanks lasers bounced off the barrier. Even though the laser attack didn’t injure Vert, it was powerful enough to push her back a few feet.

Once the tank stopped firing, the tank began driving forwards incredibly fast. Vert prepared herself for her next attack, but gasped when a little girl suddenly appeared in front of the tank.

In a flash Vert appeared next to the little girl. Her hand was outstretched. “Sylhet Spear!” She cried. A large portal appeared next to Vert. Moments later an enormous spear shot out of the portal and struck the tank head on. The tank halted in it’s tracks, dirt and debris were launched into the air. Vert lowered her hand, the portal and spear vanished along side the tank.

“Are you alright, dear?” Vert asked, looking kindly down a the small girl. The little girl nodded her head several times. “I’m glad.” She said.

“What is the meaning of this?!” Yvoire shouted.

Vert turned on her heels and spotted the elderly man standing several yards away. His hands were down by his sides and were clenched into tight fists. “How dare you attack my village like that! Who do you think you are?!”

Vert gritted her teeth as she made her way over to Yvoire. The look in Vert’s eyes caused the man to back up several feet, before he toppled over. Now Vert stood over him. “Listen to me now Yvoire. If you don’t bring me the antidote to the poison you gave my friend, I’ll spend the rest of your life making sure you regret it.”

Yvoire’s eyes went wide with terror, but not because of something Vert had said. Instead he was terrified because for a split-second Vert reminded him of lady Green Heart. “Y-Yes.” Yvoire said, rolling onto his stomach and scrambling to his feet. “Bring me the antidote to cure the poison!” He shouted.

Moments later Yvoire was handed a small vile with a pink liquid inside. Yvoire turned to Vert and handed it to her. “Here. If your friend drinks the entire vile, she’ll be fine.” The man said.

Vert took the vile and looked it over. “This better work Yvoire. I mean it.” Vert said, turning to leave. Vert made her way back into the building Neptune was resting in and uncorked the vile. Helping Neptune up, Vert tipped it to her lips.

Neptune groaned and tightened her lips. “Come on Neptune. Be a good girl and drink this. Okay?” Vert pushed the vile towards Neptune’s closed lips once more, but this time she opened them and drank the pink liquid. The moment the vile was empty, Vert gently laid Neptune back down.

Even before Neptune’s head hit the pillow, the color in her cheeks returned. “Thank goodness.” Vert said. The girl felt like crying for joy, but she knew she didn’t have time for that. “Yvoire?” Vert said.

“Y-Yes ma’am?” Yvoire said.

“I’m going to give you an order now and you better now disobey it. Understand?” Said Vert.

“Yes?” Yvoire said.

Vert turned her eyes angrily towards Yvoire. “You were lying about that security system. Correct? There’s no way you would trap yourselves in this village for twenty-four hours, right?” Yvoire nodded. “Then shut it off. Now!”

“Yes!” Yvoire said, turning towards a group of people who were watching a few yards away. “Turn off the security system! Now!” The man bellowed. Yvoire turned back to Vert, he was rubbing his hands nervously together. “Please forgive us Vert. We weren’t trying to hurt you. We were just worried about your friend.”

“Shut up Yvoire.” Vert said. “Ever since we got here, all you’ve done was lie to us. You even tried to kill my friend! And for what? Just to impress a goddess who might not even know you exist?”

Yvoire’s lower jaw dropped. “I’m… I’m certain she knows we exist.” He muttered.

Vert wanted to say more, but she felt so furious that she was afraid she might say something she would regret. “Tell me Yvoire. Why is that giant rodent attacking this village?”

Yvoire shook his head. “I have no idea. I swear!” The man cried. “The moment we built this village, that rodent has been attacking our village. We tried to fight it off using our tanks, but it easily destroyed them. You actually destroyed our last tank.”

“You left me no choice. Your tank almost cost a young girl her life.” Vert said.

“Talking about yourself Vert?” Neptune asked.

Vert turned to Neptune. The girl’s eyes were partially open and a wry smile was on her lips. “Neptune? Are you feeling better?” She asked.

“I felt a bit poopy before, but I’m doing fine.” Neptune said, yawning loudly. “I could use a nap though.

“That’s okay.” Vert said, moving a few stray hairs out of Neptune’s eyes. “You rest up.” Vert turned to Yvoire. “Is the security system shut down now?” Vert asked.

“It is.” Said Yvoire.

“Good. I’ll be right back Yvoire. If you try anything stupid while I’m gone. I’ll make you regret it. Understood?” Vert demanded, as she aimed her spear at Yvoire’s head.

“Yes! I understand!” Yvoire cried, holding his hands up in defense.

Even though Vert was certain she had regained control of their situation, she still felt nervous leaving Neptune alone. However, she knew she didn’t have much of a choice. Vert walked through the village. She noticed that everyone wore a nervous look on their faces.

“I wonder how many people here are victims of Yvoire’s manipulation and how many people know exactly what Yvoire’s doing.” Vert wondered, as she passed people by. When Vert made her way through the village gates, she was surprised to see Nepgear and Broccoli heading towards her.

“Vert? What happened?” Nepgear asked.

“It’s a long story.” Vert said. “Are you two alright?”

“Were fine, nyu.” Said Broccoli.

“She’s right, but where’s my sister?” Nepgear asked.

Vert told Nepgear everything that happened. Once Vert reached the end of her story, Nepgear narrowed her eyes at the village. “This stupid village… They tried to kill my sister? I’ll never forgive them!”

“Nepgear. It’s okay now.” Vert said. “Your sister is fine. Come on. There’s something we need to talk about.”

Nepgear followed Vert to where her sister was resting. Once the sisters were reunited, Nepgear turned her eyes angrily towards Yvoire. “This is Neptune!” Nepgear said, pointing at her sister. “She’s the type of girl who would risk her life for a stranger. Someone who took care of me since I can remember! You had no right to try and kill her!”

“Were so sorry!” Yvoire cried.

“Sorry doesn’t make it better!” Nepgear said, angrily. “I’d beat you up, but I know my sister would pelt me with her snacks if I did that. So were just going to leave, right Vert?”

“No.” Vert said, shaking her head.

“No? Why would we stay?” Nepgear asked.

“For one reason Nepgear. We need to help this village.” Said Vert.

Nepgear couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “You want to help this village after what they did?”

“Yes.” Vert said. “I know it doesn’t make any sense, but we can’t leave this village knowing that giant rodent is out there. We need to slay that monster before we can go anywhere.”

Nepgear began pacing back and forth. “I can’t believe this… You want to save this village… They poisoned Neptune and took you both hostage! This is crazy!” Nepgear said, angrily. “I mean we probably could kill it, but we’d have to wait until my sister was at full strength.”

“There we go.” Vert said, smiling warmly at Nepgear.

“What?” Nepgear asked. She stopped pacing.

“I knew you were like your sister. Helpful and kind. Yes this village did harm your sister, but not everyone here is bad.” Said Vert.

“I know that.” Nepgear said, her shoulders sagged. Nepgear took a deep breath. “Alright. I’m willing to help, but after that I want to leave. I never want to see this village again.”

“I understand.” Said Vert, nodding. “You heard her Yvoire. Were willing to deal with Big Pirachu, but after that were leaving.”

“Yes of course.” Said Yvoire. “In the meantime. Are any of you feeling hungry? I could-”

“Get out of here Yvoire!” Nepgear snapped.

“Yes ma’am!” Yvoire said, as he ran off.

“Good call.” Said Vert, as she pulled off her backpack. “I’ll worry about dinner.”

Nepgear nodded. It was at that moment she noticed a small girl was standing by the door. “Hello sweetheart.” Nepgear said, forcing a smile. “I’m sorry if I sounded so scary before. I’m not mad at you or anything.”

Vert turned to the little girl and quickly recognized her. “It’s you.” She said.

“Thank you.” The little girl said. “For rescuing me.”

Vert smiled warmly at the little girl. “You’re very welcome, dear.” After the little girl waved farewell to Nepgear, Vert and Broccoli, she left. Vert giggled as she turned her eyes towards Nepgear and tilted her head slightly to the right.

Nepgear sighed deeply. “Alright Vert. I get it.” Nepgear said, shrugging her shoulders. “She’s worth fighting for.”

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 65

“Well actually…” Neptune began, as she scratched the back of her head as she laughed nervously. “… funny story. Were-” Before Neptune could say another word, Vert had covered Neptune’s mouth with her hand and brought the girl close to her chest.

“What my friend is trying to say is that we do worship Lady Green Heart, but we didn’t actually know such a wonderful village existed. Were trying to find a new place to live as well, so were hoping this might be our forever home.” Vert said, hoping that her quick explanation convinced Yvoire.

Yvoire chuckled. “Of course. I understand.” The man said, taking a deep breath. “I’m sure there are plenty of other lost lambs such as yourself, who don’t realize just how great our goddess is, but someday they’ll make their pilgrimages here.” Yvoire turned to face the large group that had gathered around him and started speaking.

“Neptune?” Vert began, in a small voice. “I don’t trust this place at all. It might be wise to keep the real reason why were traveling a secret. At least for now.”

Neptune held up a thumbs-up-sign.

“I’m glad we understand each other.” Vert said, uncovering her friend’s mouth.

“So… Mr. Eviler?” Neptune began. “My sister and friend are outside the village. Is there anyway we can leave a little early? I don’t want to leave them along too long. My sister get’s lonely you see.”

“Eviler?” Yvoire said, slowly shaking his head. “Anyways, I’m afraid it’s impossible.”

“I see…” Neptune said, sighing deeply. “I hope Nepgear and Broccoli are okay.”

***

Nepgear ran as fast as she could away from the Big Pirachu. She still clutched Broccoli and Gema under her arms. As they ran, Big Pirachu continued to take swipes at the girls. It swung it’s large paws at Nepgear forcing the girl to jump over its attacks. It raised one of it’s large feet and  brought it down hard, causing the ground to shake violently under Nepgear.

However, no matter how many attacks Big Pirachu launched at them, Nepgear didn’t slow down.

After several long moments Nepgear ran into a tree grove and leapt behind a large boulder that was poking out of the ground. Even though Broccoli didn’t have any intention of speaking and Gema hadn’t said a single word, Nepgear still covered both of their mouths as she hid behind the boulder.

Big Pirachu entered the tree grove and began knocking over trees as it ran through, but stopped after several yards. The giant creature scanned the area in search of Nepgear, Broccoli and Gema. When the creature couldn’t find it’s targets, Big Pirachu turned it’s massive frame around and wandered off.

Nepgear sighed with relief. “Goodness. I thought it would catch us.” Nepgear looked down when she felt a small hand patting her hand. “Ooh sorry!” Nepgear said, uncovering Broccoli’s mouth.

“You ran fast, nyu.” Broccoli said. “We should hurry back to that village, nyu.”

“Good idea.” Nepgear said, as she stood up. Nepgear waited until she was certain that the Big Pirachu wasn’t making it’s way back to the village. After that, Nepgear, Broccoli and Gema headed back to the village.

“I wonder if they built this giant wall to keep that Big Pirachu out.” Nepgear wondered, aloud.

“Who knows, nyu.” Broccoli said. “The sooner we leave the better, nyu.”

“Agreed.” Nepgear said.

Nepgear approached the walls surrounding the city. As the girls got closer, Nepgear noticed the large metallic gate covering the entrance of the village. “That’s not good.” Nepgear thought to herself. Once she was close enough, Nepgear cupped her hands around her mouth. “NEPTUNE! VERT! CAN YOU HEAR ME?” Nepgear shouted.

“NEPGEAR!” Neptune shouted.

“YOUR BIG SISTER IS RIGHT HERE!” Vert shouted back. “SO IS NEPTUNE!”

“HEY! I’M NEPGEAR’S BIG SISTER!” Neptune.

“There’s no reason to shout.” Came the voice of an elderly man.

“Oh. Sorry.” Neptune said, giggling. “Anyways, I think were stuck here for an entire day. Security system’s activated, gates closed, ceilings protected by an energy barrier, you can guess the rest.”

“Is there a reset button or anything like that?” Nepgear asked.

Neptune didn’t respond right away, but it only took her a few moments to. “I’m seeing a lot of shaking heads. I guess not.” Said Neptune. “You and Broccoli probably need to go on ahead. We’ll meet you at the Fairy Tower, okay?”

Nepgear closed her eyes for a moment as she folded her hands in front of her. Broccoli furrowed her brow. “Are you praying, nyu?” Broccoli asked, in a small voice.

“No. It’s just…” Nepgear opened her eyes and shook her head. “That’s alright Neptune. Broccoli and I will camp out here. We’ll see you tomorrow then.”

“Okay. Where’s that giant Parachute?” Neptune asked.

“You mean Pirachu?” Nepgear offered.

“Him too.” Said Neptune.

Nepgear turned around and looked over the entire area, but the Big Pirachu was nowhere to be seen. “I don’t know. It stopped chasing after me a little while ago.” Said Nepgear. “Anyways, were going to find a safe place to campout for tonight. We’ll meet you in front of the gate as the same time tomorrow.”

“Okay!” Neptune said.

Nepgear turned to leave, but stopped when Vert called out to her. “Nepgear? Are you still here?”

“Yes!” Nepgear called back.

“This village is beautiful and they really love Lady Green Heart here!” Vert called out. “We might have found the village of our dreams. A place where all four of us can live together.”

Broccoli furrowed her brow once more, but didn’t say anything. “Excellent!” Nepgear called back. “I can’t wait to see it!” And with those words, Nepgear and Broccoli turned to leave.

Broccoli had a million questions running through her mind, but she didn’t ask any of them until they were out of earshot of everyone in the village. “Broccoli is confused. What was that about, nyu?”

“This doesn’t make sense.” Nepgear said, shaking her head. “Why would they set up a security system that literally locked them in for twenty-four hours? And they have no way of resetting the system, or turning it off? I don’t believe it.”

“Broccoli also thought it was suspicious.” Broccoli said, scratching her chin thoughtfully.

“I have a feeling that Vert’s thinking the same thing.” Said Nepgear. “I just hope nothing happens to them while we wait.”

***

“You sound like a great big sister.” Yvoire said. “You two must be very close.”

Neptune smiled and nodded. “Y-”

“Yes we are.” Vert said, cutting Neptune off.

Neptune turned her eyes to Vert and groaned loudly at her, but Vert didn’t seem to notice. Instead she was smiling brightly and had her hands clasped together in front of her. “She and Broccoli also have great love for Lady Green Heart too. I’m sure they can’t wait to see this village.”

Yvoire was brimming with joy. “I’m so glad to hear you say that.” He said.

“I have a question!” Neptune said, raising her hand. Vert turned her eyes nervously towards Neptune. “What’s the deal with that giant rat? That thing was gross and big and crazy strong!”

“Yes… That.” Yvoire said, closing his eyes and shaking his head. “As followers of Lady Green Heart. You are aware of her evil nemesis, correct?”

Neptune shrugged her shoulders.

“You don’t mean Lady Purple Heart, Lady Black Heart and Lady White Heart. Right?” Asked Vert.

“Unfortunately I do.” Said Yvoire. “You see… A long time ago the goddesses all lived together in a wonderful place called Celesita. There they ruled together in relative peace. Little did Lady Green Heart know that the other goddesses were plotting against her. One day they attacked Lady Green Heart and they had every intention of killing her.”

“Uh-Oh.” Neptune said, shocked.

“Thankfully our goddess was much more powerful than they were and she easily defeated each of them.” Yvoire said, beaming with joy. “And in our goddesses infinite mercy, she decided not to kill the other goddesses. Instead she sent them to Gamindustri to learn how to be proper goddesses.”

“Cool.” Said Neptune.

“Cool indeed.” Yvoire said, nodding several times. “Our Goddess though was humble. She too believed that she had something to learn as well, so she came to our planet as well. Unfortunately the thing that Lady Green Heart learnt was that her so-called people didn’t love her. They didn’t worship her and didn’t believe in her anymore! Because of this, Lady Green Heart vanished, but she didn’t leave Leanbox.”

“Where is she?” Neptune asked.

“No one knows.” Said Yvoire. “No one except me! Lady Green Heart is out there and she’s waiting for her people to start loving and worshiping her once more.”

“How do you know all this?” Neptune asked.

“Because Lady Green Heart came to me in a vision. She told me to go forth and start a village and call it the New Leanbox. A place where her worshipers can go and be saved!” Yvoire held out his hands. “And as you can see. I did exactly what she asked of me.”

“Cool story, but what about the giant Parachute thing?” Neptune asked.

“Yes… Well that’s where the evil goddesses come in. You see the other goddesses also learnt that they weren’t loved by their people either. However, instead of learning from this and doing better, instead they created an evil monster and had it attack New Leanbox.” Yvoire said. “That’s why we have this wall surrounding our entire village, that metal gate and the energy barrier overhead. To protect us from their evil.”

“Cool story. When’s dinner?” Neptune asked.

Yvoire looked down at Neptune. “Did you understand my story?” He asked.

“Sorry.” Very said, covering Neptune’s mouth before she could say anything. “Neptune’s really slow. I’ll make sure she understands.”

“Excellent.” Yvoire said. “And I also understand you two had a hard day. I’ll show you to your rooms before we have dinner.”

“Awesome!” Neptune said, pulling Vert’s hand away from her mouth.

Yvoire led Neptune and Vert to a small shack that was located a few yards away from where they were talking before. “This is the building you two can stay in. I hope you don’t mind sharing a room.”

“Ooh… Nope! Were a thing I guess.” Neptune said, hugging Vert’s arm close to her chest.

“I’m glad your satisfied.” Yvoire said. “Now. Let’s get something to eat, shall we?”

“Sounds good!” Neptune said. “I’m willing to give Vert the ole boot if you have some refrigerated pudding.”

“Oh Neptune.” Vert said, roughly patting Neptune on the back. “You’re such a kidder!”

“Hey I’m tired of lukewarm pudding. I haven’t had refrigerated pudding since Last-” Neptune once again found Vert’s hand clasped over her mouth.

“Since last night. I know.” Vert said, giggling.

Yvoire was looking over his shoulder at the two girls. “I see. I’ll see what I can do for you.”

Yvoire led the two girls into a large room that was filled with tables and chairs. Located in the very back of the room was a kitchen. “Please you two. Have a seat. It would be my pleasure to serve the both of you.”

“Thanks!” Neptune said, as she found a seat and sat down. Vert sat down beside her and sighed deeply. “What’s wrong with you?” Neptune asked. “All that mouth covering got annoying you know. You can’t stop this Nep when she has something to say.”

“Neptune dear.” Vert began. “Please just think a moment before you say something. I don’t trust this place. Doesn’t it seem really cultish to you?”

Neptune turned her eyes towards the front door of the building and watched as dozens of people filed into the building. Each of the people wore green veils over the back of their heads and wore white and green robes as well. “Yeah… I’m starting to see it now.” Neptune said, in a low voice.

“You see? We need to be careful. Just watch what you say. Once the gates opened tomorrow, we can leave.” Said Vert.

“Right.” Neptune said, nodding.

A few moments later Yvoire reappeared carrying two trays of food. Even though Vert was feeling very wary of the village, she was surprised to see the food they were being served. Instead of flavorless gruel, they were served meat and vegetables. Yvoire even placed down a large bowl of pudding next to Neptune’s tray.

“Please. Enjoy.” Yvoire said.

“Pudding!” Neptune said, as she grabbed the bowl and a spoon.

“Wait Neptune!” Vert said. “You shouldn’t eat dessert fist.”

Neptune blinked her eyes several times. She had a spoonful of pudding just hovering outside her mouth. Neptune suddenly shrugged. “Yeah but whatcha gonna do?” She asked, before placing the spoon in her mouth. “Yummy!”

Vert giggled. “Neptune. You really love your pudding, don’t you?” Just as Vert finished speaking, Neptune suddenly fell backwards and collapsed onto the floor. “Neptune?” Vert began, jumping to her feet. “NEPTUNE!”

The color in Neptune’s cheeks had vanished and her lips turned purple. Neptune’s entire body started to shake. Vert fell to her knees beside her friend. “Yvoire? What’s happening?”

“I’m so sorry.” Yvoire said, the man looked as though he were close to tears. “I was suspicious of your friends. I thought she might be a messenger sent by the evil goddesses. I didn’t want to believe it, so I served her a special kind of poison that only works on evil. Unfortunately it seems that the other goddesses evil influence has corrupted her heart and soul. I’m afraid that your friend will die.”

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 64

Even though Nepgear was happy to have Broccoli join their ranks, apart of her was worried. Broccoli, after all, was a very small girl. Also for some reason she rode around on a floating yellow ball she named Gema. “Broccoli?” Nepgear began, trying to find the right words to use. “Are you sure you want to help us with our quest? I appreciate the offer of course, but you know this is going to be dangerous.”

“Danger doesn’t scare Broccoli, nyu.” Broccoli said, dully.

“Still… What weapons do you use when you fight?” Asked Nepgear.

“Broccoli can fire her Mekara Beam, nyu.” Said Broccoli.

“Mekara Beam?” Nepgear said, thoughtfully.

Broccoli pointed at a nearby tree. “See that tree over there, nyu? Broccoli will blow it up with her Mekara Beam!”

“Uh… Is that the same as your laser eyebeams?” Neptune asked.

“Yes, nyu. Broccoli has a fifty fifty percent chance of it working, nyu.” Broccoli said, confidentially.

“And if it doesn’t work?” Nepgear asked.

“Y-You don’t want to know.” Neptune said, stepping forwards and patting Broccoli on the shoulder. “Alright tiger, settle down. It’s not nice blasting trees with your Mekara Beam, or covering the ground in disgusting eye goop.”

“Broccoli has to prove herself, nyu.” Broccoli said.

“Oh no you don’t!” Nepgear said, waving her hands wildly in the air. “I’m sorry about that Broccoli, you don’t have to prove yourself to us. I’m sure you’re a very strong fighter!”

Nepgear’s words only seemed to push Broccoli further. “Very well… Broccoli won’t use her Mekara Beam, nyu. She will use her Gema though, nyu.” Said Broccoli, as she hopped off Gema and grabbed it’s side. After that Broccoli ran into the trees and disappeared.

“She ran off.” Vert said, confused.

“Should we follow after her?” Nepgear asked.

“Nah. I’m sure she’ll be fine.” Neptune said.

A few moments later several strange monsters ran out of the trees. “Boxbird monsters!” Vert said, as she quickly summoned her spear.

Nepgear held up her hands and was about to summon her energy sword, when Broccoli suddenly reappeared. The small catgirl was flying over one of the Boxbird monsters, she held Gema over her head and brought him down fast. Even though Broccoli’s attack looked like it would be epic, instead she lazily brought Gema down on the Boxbird.

Gema slammed into the Boxbird and the creature vanished in a bright flash of light. Broccoli landed on her feet and slowly approached the other Boxbird monsters before swinging Gema at them.

“It looks like a pillow fight.” Nepgear thought, as Broccoli smacked the remaining Boxbird monster’s with her Gema. Each attack looked lazy and weak, but they were powerful enough to defeat each monster with a single blow.

“Broccoli is the winner, nyu!” Broccoli said, as she turned to Nepgear.

“You sure are!” Nepgear said, happily. “I wasn’t doubting you Broccoli. I was just worried. That’s all. My sister has a habit of leaving important information out and I thought she didn’t explain everything to you. That’s all.”

“Sure… Blame me.” Neptune said. “Anyways I found us an amazing new friend. You may worship me now!”

“Welcome aboard Broccoli!” Vert said, excitedly.

“Yes. Welcome aboard.” Said Nepgear.

Neptune giggled. “You’re welcome guys!” Neptune said, feeling a bit left out.

“Thank you, nyu.” Broccoli said.

“Anyways…” Nepgear pulled out her N-Gear and looked down at the screen. “Our next destination is several miles in that direction.” Nepgear said, gesturing towards the small village Neptune had just come from. All we have to do is go past the village over there and keep walking. It looks like were headed for some mountains.”

“Do you mind?” Vert asked, holding out her hand.

“Sure.” Nepgear said, handing her N-Gear over.

Vert looked down at the screen. “I think were headed towards Halo Mountain.” Said Vert.

“Have you been there before?” Nepgear asked.

Vert shrugged her shoulders. “To be honest dear, I feel like I have, but I’m not sure. My memories are jumbled.”

“I understand.” Said Nepgear, as Vert handed back her N-Gear.

“Are you okay traveling with us that long?” Nepgear asked, Broccoli. To Nepgear’s surprised Broccoli was already heading back towards the village.

“Broccoli is already making her way to Halo Mountain, nyu.” Broccoli said, throwing her tiny hands into the air.

“Don’t go ahead of us dear!” Vert cried, as she ran to catch up with Broccoli.

Nepgear sighed deeply, as she slid her N-Gear back into it’s holster. “You okay Nepgear?” Neptune asked, making her way over to her sister.

“I just feel like I’m saying the wrong thing to Broccoli. I’m not trying to make her mad, but I’m concerned about her. I’m worried she doesn’t fully understand what were doing. I also don’t want her to feel like were trying to trick her.”

“Don’t worry about that Nepgear.” Neptune said, taking her sister by the hand. “I know you’re always fussing over everyone else’s feelings. Just do what you always do!” Neptune said, as she pulled her sister along with her. “Come on! Let’s go!” And with those words, Neptune and Nepgear ran to catch up with Broccoli.

The girls made their way past the village and continued their journey to Halo Mountain. As they walked, Broccoli started singing a song. “Nyu, nyu, nyu, nyu!” She sang. Vert blushed heavily as she sung along with the song. Neptune and Nepgear on the other hand kept their eyes open for any signs of monsters.

Several long moments later Neptune spotted something ahead of them. “Hey! Is that another village?” Neptune asked, as she placed her right hand above her eyes just incase the sun was making her see things.

“Yes. I think it is.” Nepgear said, her eyebrows furrowed. Unlike the last village the girls passed, this one seemed strange. The entire village was surrounded by a large wooden wall. The walls looked like they were made up of tree trunks and the tops had been sharpened to a sharp point.

“What’s going on with that village?” Neptune asked, confused.

“Don’t know, nyu.” Said Broccoli.

“Maybe it’s to defend themselves from-” Before Nepgear could finish speculating, a giant monster appeared. At first Nepgear had no idea what it was that she was looking at. The creature was tall and dark in color. It had large rodent like ears and a strange symbol drawn on it’s stomach. “Is that Pirachu?” Nepgear said, her lower jaw dropped.

“You mean that jerk that tricked you and Uni back in Lastation?” Neptune asked.

“Yeah, but… He wasn’t that big.” Nepgear said.

“What’s this about tricking you?” Vert asked.

“Ooh! Now I’m mad!” Neptune said, as she summoned her katana. “Come on everyone! Let’s Nep that big jerk up!”

Before anyone could stop her, Neptune rushed forwards and started running at the Big Pirachu as fast as she could. It only took her a few moments to reach the giant creature. The Big Pirachu was pushing against the walls that surrounded the small village, the panicked voices of people on the other side caught Neptune’s attention.

“Worry not folks! Neptune is here!” Neptune leapt high in the air and sliced at Big Pirachu’s side, causing the creature to stumble to the right. The creature kicked up dirt and debris as it moved away from the villages wall.

Neptune landed gracefully on her feet and watched as the giant creature turned it’s body towards her. “Chuu!” The Big Pirachu roared, as it stomped towards Neptune and swung it’s paws at the girl. Neptune leapt back several times, but had to jump high in the air to avoid the creatures tail, which had been launched at her.

“I’m here Neptune!” Vert cried, as she leapt into the air and stabbed the Big Pirachu with her spear.

The Big Pirachu roared angrily, as it began running towards the right. At first, Neptune and Vert thought the Big Pirachu was trying to run away, but quickly realized that wasn’t what it was doing. The creature lunged towards the girls and lashed out at them using both it’s paws.

Neptune and Vert held up their hands to block the attack. The paws struck their weapons forcing them to fly backwards. Neptune and Vert flew through the entrance of the city and landed gracefully on their feet. “You can’t-” Neptune began, but before she could finish speaking a large metal gate fell over the entrance of the city. “-defeat us…” Neptune said, dully.

***

Nepgear and Broccoli finally made it to the Big Pirachu. Now that Nepgear was closer, she noticed that Neptune and Vert were nowhere to be seen. “Sis? Vert? Where are you?!” Nepgear called out.

“Your sister is right here!” Vert called out, from behind the large wall of the village. “Neptune’s here too! She’s fine!”

“Stop trying to steal my little sister Vert!” Neptune cried. “Nepgear? Be careful! That thing is tough! Don’t worry though. Were getting out of here and helping you!”

“Right!” Nepgear said, nodding. Nepgear aimed the tip of her energy sword at the Big Pirachu. “Let’s do this Broccoli!”

“Right, nyu!” Broccoli said, as her eyes began to shine. “Mekara Beam!” Broccoli called out.

Nepgear screamed as green goop exploded from Broccoli’s eyes, covering the ground. “Broccoli messed up, nyu.” Broccoli said, rubbing the back of her head in embarrassment. Nepgear screamed once more as Big Pirachu lifted it’s left foot high in the air and brought it down hard.

Nepgear grabbed Broccoli and Gema and began running from the Big Pirachu as fast as she could. “We have to regroup! Run away!” Nepgear cried, as Big Pirachu stomped after them.

***

Neptune and Vert listened nervously as the fight outside the village continued, but soon things started dying down. “Did they win?” Neptune asked.

Vert shook her head. “I think Nepgear and Broccoli fled. I don’t blame them. That monster was tough.” Vert said, her shoulders sagged. It was at that moment Vert and Nepgear realized they had been surrounded by people.

The people in the village all looked nervous. “Have you come…” A man began. “To worship lady Green Heart?”

“Lady Green Heart?” Neptune said, confused.

“Please.” Came a loud voice. All Eyes turned to an elderly man, who was dressed in green robes. “Don’t confuse our guests. They just went through a very trying ordeal.” The man said, slowly making his way to Vert and Neptune. “My name is Yvoire. I welcome you to New Leanbox.”

“Thanks for the welcome and all dude, but we have to go.” Neptune said, gesturing towards the large metal gate. “My sister and our friend is being attacked by that giant rat. We need to help them.”

“I’m sorry.” Yvoire said, slowly shaking his head. “The security system has been activated. It’s impossible to open the gate for another twenty-four hours.” Said the elderly man.

“Twenty four hours?” Vert said, shocked.

“Yes. We built these walls to keep the giant rodent monster away from us. The security system you see there had been malfunctioning. It normally would have been impossible for you to enter our village. You entered just as we fixed the problem. I’m truly sorry.” Yvoire said, bowing.

“It’s alright.” Vert said, smiling warmly at the elderly man.

Neptune glanced upwards. “I think we can just jump over the wall.”

“I’m afraid that would be impossible to.” Yvoire said. “If someone could throw a rock up there?”

Neptune looked down and found a rock lying at her feet. Picking it up, she aimed upwards and threw it as hard as she could. The rock flew from her hand, sailed high into the air, before it struck a red barrier and exploded.

Neptune and Vert covered their eyes, but the people around them didn’t move. “What the…” Vert began.

“As you can see. We employ energy barriers to keep our top protected as well. In twenty-four hours it should shut down.” Yvoire said.

Neptune wanted to argue, but she knew it was pointless. “Great… Trapped in here…” The girl grumbled.

Vert was feeling panicked as well, but something else was on her mind. “Yvoire? You said this was the New Leanbox correct? Why?”

Yvoire smiled brightly. “We call this place the New Leanbox for a very simple reason. Because we are the only people who still worship Lady Green Heart with all the love and respect she deserves.”

“That’s right!” Someone shouted.

“I love Lady Green Heart!” A little girl cried.

“Lady Green Heart is the true goddess!” A man shouted.

“Oh cool.” Neptune said. Neptune wasn’t sure why, but she was starting to feel a bit nervous. Something about Yvoire didn’t sit right with her.

Yvoire made his way closer and closer to Neptune and Vert. “Even though this village might look old, it’s actually been here for only a few months. Were small now, but we imagine more and more people will come here to worship along side us. I’m sure that’s why you two are here, correct?”

Vert and Neptune exchanged looks. “Of course!” said Vert.

Neptune on the other hand shook her head. “Well Actually…”

Neptunia Heart Souls- CHAPTER 104 (Final Chapter)

When Noire heard that Neptune had an idea, she wasn’t expecting this. Neptune, Noire, Vert and Blanc had changed into their goddess forms a...
